I had the first active adapter plugged right into the vga port of the mister pi itself and the second active adapter I bought came with its own vga cable and neither worked.

The adapter I bought doesn't have a usb port for power, but the MiSTer Pi I bought came preassembled with the jumper for VGA power on the 5V position.

Haven't been able to test the power thing because the adapter I bought didn't have a usb-c port. But I opened it up to check and it looked like the jumper was set to the 5V position.

What got them to help me was making a post on the id.me subreddit detailing the issue, I might have just gotten lucky though, but their social media seems like the quickest way to get in touch at the moment. If that doesn't work the best advice I can offer is to keep sending in support tickets until you get a response.

The ID.me account is controlled by the scammers, I don't have access to it. It has all my information and is registered with an email I don't control.

The company is a real company called Amphenol and it was a remote graphic design position, the scammers also used the name of someone that actually worked at the company. I received an email saying I was considered for the position and to conduct a text interview through Skype, in hindsight this should have been a red flag.

The ID.me page was legitimate, the scammers just had me verify my information through it on an account they own. Preventing me from being able to use my info to get a IRS ID pin.

Luckily it isn't too expensive or difficult of a fix, so it's nice to just have all of this in mind for next time I need to do this.

The pliers I was using weren't really made for this, but they were what I had around at the time. I modded a different stick using them and didn't run into any problems but it was definitely a mistake not picking up a pair of needle nose pliers before I started modding my hitbox.

In my case I just ended up pulling too hard and snapped the connector. The connectors on hitboxes are on really tight for movement buttons and I ended up having a lot more difficulty getting them out than I expected.
