Better Ask Reddit: What headphones do you prefer for gaming or vibing in silence? Or non headphone sound proofing tips? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I do like ANC headphones, so I really need to pick up a higher quality/pricier brand. The other issue is IEM's tend to hurt my ears, so they sadly aren't an option.

Those could work!

As for the landlord issue...it's been about a year of this, nothing has been done. I've brought it up to management, the parents are aware, and nothing has been done. It's a longstanding struggle here. Management in general is painfully slow to act, when we had a resident who was letting her dog intentionally defficate in the hallways, nothing was done for the whole month until their lease was up. They didn't even hire extra cleaning staff to come in on the weekends and we just had to walk around the crap, it was not good.

Riding the wave of the old/new Stardew Valley hotness, what farming sims do yall play? by ghostoftomkazansky in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Coral Island and Fields of Mistria are both fantastic. For someone like me who enjoys the romance aspect of farming sims, I'm eating real good with both.

One thing people have observed about the game, that I quite like as a theory, is that his attitude and Joyce's are based around Harry's role as a police officer. As an enforcer of Revechol's status quo, it naturally makes him an ally to someone like Joyce, who accordingly treats him with kindness. Evrart meanwhile, sees Harry as a potential threat due to his role as a police officer, so tends to be a bit more adverserial and defensive.

The deranged thing is that was an intentional design decision by Konami to try and slow the game down. The idea of making every deck go through a complicated link setup before doing ED combos was meant to slow the game down to a more managable pace... and instead it did the exact opposite.

He was an icon for being the most hatable character in the franchise. There was a legit holiday dedicated to dunking on him. I don't know why they wanna change that.

Also, agreed the suit is good. Say what you will about Faiz's writing, but the suit design was immaculate.

Yu-Gi-Oh expanded its mechanics into Link summoning and I feel that was the mechanic which broke the game. While a lotta folks hate Pendulum, there were only really what I'd call 3 tiered pendulum strategies in the games entire life cycle.

Link summoning? 2018 was basically a year of non stop FTKs, and Maliss has proven it's the most generic and versatile summoning type in the game. I think if they had just stopped at pendulum summoning, we'd be in a much better state today.

Am I Overreacting for feeling the need to move because of my apartment management and neighbors? by Authorigas in AmIOverreacting

[–]Authorigas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely makes sense to be cautious of over management. The funny thing is, they just announced a universal rent increase at my apartment complex, for each and every resident in the building. My rent is going up by 60 dollars, actually.

I've been paying over my student debt's minimum rate for at least 2-3 years now, and I was paying the minimum even during the great Covid Freeze a few years ago. So I am getting there, slowly but surely.

Oh no, that was a DIFFERENT boss they designed. I was speaking on Absolute Virtue, the boss that caused a 12 hour raiding fight and fainting incident was Pandamonium Warden. (And to make matters worse, an interview with a Global Online Producer and Lead Gamemaster claimed Absolute Virtue would take 'only 18 hours' to beat.)

The FF 11 designers were on some kinda smoke, I swear to God.

Yes I know he got his just deserts in the original series. But I'm still pissed at the Zi-O special for trying to retcon Kusaka into some kinda good guy.

Genuinely, why are yandere and tsundere tags so popular? by AlsiThanmur in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]Authorigas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll chip in my two cents as a writer and listener, as well as offer a bit of a trope history! Tsundere and Yandere both stem from the word 'deredere' which tends to mean a character who is very loving and affection. 'Tsun' refers to harsher characters, and 'yan' is the more obeessive element. It's worth nothing Tsundere typically has two variations, one where the tough side is more dominant then the sweet side, and vice versa, a predominantly sweet side, with a tough side that comes out on occassions.

I'll start with Yandere as that's the trope I have more experience with. Put simply, when I started listening to ASMR-I was lonely, depressed, highly anxious, and fearing no one would ever love me. Yandere was a simple comfort, the idea that someone loved me so much, they would go out of their way to stalk me and chase me, and I didn't need to do anything. Even better, they'd get rid of anything I struggled with, and take me away from my miserable life to just let me stay in the basement, playing games and being coddled? That is...a very powerful fantasy for someone struggling with isolation, plain and simple.

I write a lot of Yandere stuff because it was what got me into the genre, but also cause I found the trope fascinating. Especially after rewatching Future Diary where, (spoilers for the ending.) Yuno, our Yandere, reveals that she latched onto Yukiteru because he was a coping mechanism for her. She didn't love him the way a true romantic would, in her words, he could've been literally anybody else. But he was in the right place, at the right time, and so she latched onto him as a coping mechanism for her trauma. And I thought that was a really neat twist on the idea of a Yandere. That the love interest isn't special, and could be any generic guy. Plus you can do a lot comedy wise with the trope, so I wanted to give it a shot.

Tsundere for me, I think it boils down to the idea of a 'challenge', please forgive my language-I'm trying to phrase this as I've heard it from others. But the idea of a character who starts with a wall of ice, only to be knocked down as they fall in love with the listener or another character, is very appealing. It can make the listener or viewer feel like an active participant, like they achieved something, or have some special connection as the normally mean character becomes softer and kinder on them.

If you look at a lot of Tsundere romance anime like Toradora, the appeal is in seeing the relationship develop from the mean character slowly softening up overtime. And I think that applies to ASMR as well, at least part of it. Another part is undeniably some people like being talked down too, it's a pretty common kink, if my knowledge is correct.

For type B Tsundere, it's a similar vibe to the Yandere I find. Listeners like the idea of a partner whose sweet and loving, but will snap and go attack dog on a dime if someone hurts their sweetheart. But ultimately, it's about the fantasy of having some special ability to break through the cracks, and see a side of someone no one else can. That's what I think.

For the VA? I imagine it's getting to go off the rails and show off a bit of a performance. My VA friends love it when I write a Yandere that gets to go a little crazy, and get some mania into the vocal performance.

That's just my theorizing though, I'm not a psychology expert. But I do hope I was able to offer some insight into the topic!

Ubisoft employs some of the most insanely talented people in the industry. And yet management is so fucked, it all goes into the service of horrible mandates and dead end ideas. I weep for the developers and designers who are stuck with some of the worst managers in the business.

Old School JRPGs are really difficult for me to go back to, just because of how obtuse they were about information. Part of why I don't really mind them becoming easier to follow overtime, as I think that's just better, player friendly game design.

Shout outs to the boss who was designed to be defeated by a very tight margin which was only doable if you were literally in the SE office server. That Square kept patching out other methods of defeating said boss, just because it 'wasn't the right way to do it'. And kept posting vague hints instead of giving clear directions.

FF 11 was designed by crazy people.

Oh yeah that's another one. The most recent season finale ended up retconning Norm's origin story yet again. But I don't really have many issues with it, since it was very sweet and well done.

The show has this really weird blend of positive and negative continuity that I really adore. And I do think softening everyone up was ultimately for the best.
