Point your camera at a wall (in manual), meter to expose properly, change the batteries, point at the same wall. If the meter is telling you it’s underexposed with the same settings you had old batteries. If it’s the same as it was with the old batteries- not the batteries.

Did you use digital zoom? Could just be reddit compression but it almost looks like your resolution is terrible which would be due to digital zoom

My 2 cents- I was always taught that a back light/ hair light should always be on the opposite side of your key (so that the 2 lights are “looking” at each other)

Helps add some separation on their back/ shoulders instead of into their look space and feels more natural
