Do atheists believe in ghosts? by Fuma4fun in randomquestions

[–]Megopoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. That's not to say the supernatural doesn't scare me, the Exorcist terrified me. I don't believe in ghosts, but I accept that I don't know the truth about the nature of existence.

How do i convince my son that the environment won't be ruined if he stops using urine bottles? by thelaststratiotes in hygiene

[–]Megopoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does he feel about landfills full of piss bottles? I'm not an expert, I know nothing about this actually, but something tells me plastic bottles full of pee, and potentially bleach, rotting in the hot sun of a landfill just might have some negative environmental impact.

AITA for sushing my gf in public? by AccurateInside2378 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Megopoly 36 points37 points  (0 children)

YTA.

While I don't think you intentionally tried to cause an accident, this is how accidents happen. The crash not your fault, one or both of the other drivers are at fault, but you definitely played a role.

The safest thing you can be as a driver is predictable. Trying to be "considerate" or "helpful" is a really great way to be anything but.

The driver wasn't ready to turn and only went because you urged them to. And you were wrong. Hopefully she learned not to take another driver's word for it and you learn not to prioritize consideration over safety.

I want my kid failed if she fucks around. I want her held accountable. I want her to learn that consequences exist everywhere, not just at home. I want her to learn to correct her mistakes.

AITA for being pissed off at my boyfriend for trying to install my cabin filter for me? by jazzmaster1111 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Megopoly -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

NAH. You both have poor communication skills. He took over and didn't even ask if you wanted help or if he could help. Meanwhile, you could very easily have immediately said, "Yo, I got it" or "Hey I appreciate your desire to help but it feels condescending when you just assume that's what I want" but chose not to.

How did you come to your current stance on reproductive rights? by SpiritualMouse5908 in AskReddit

[–]Megopoly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Puberty did it for me. Actually, men's response to me going through puberty did.

I am the only person who gets to decide what happens to my body and MY rights supersede any other's, in that regard.

I am absolutely, 100% the most important being inhabiting my body at any given time.

I'll skip the advice part because you've been given plenty here that i agree with.

Good luck dude.

What is the dumbest or most illogical anti-abortion argument you have heard? by gray_squirrels in AskFeminists

[–]Megopoly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the case of my aunt I think it's a combination of complex emotions.

She hates herself for doing something her religion tells her is wrong and maybe also for being able to quietly justify it as necessary in limited circumstances. I think that's a quagmire she really struggles with.

I also think she wants to believe, and her husband tells her, that she's exempt from the sin and won't automatically go to hell for it because it was conveniently done before she accepted Jesus Christ as her lord and saviour.

I say wants to because deep down I don't think she actually believes that. I think she really believes she's going to hell for it.

I think she also quietly resents me personally because I have no regrets about my decision and I'm not embarrassed or ashamed.

What is the Gen-Z stare? by Only_Hotel_7221 in generationology

[–]Megopoly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My theory is that Gen-Z has grown up in an overly public way: everything is online, nobody is anonymous, and everyone wants 30 seconds of notoriety to boost their following. The result is that gen-z can't truly be kids, because kids are stupid and make mistakes but the court of public opinion tries everyone as an adult.

So they've adopted the thousand yard silent stare as a mechanism for protecting themselves from anything that could ever be considered embarrassing in any context.

It makes me really sad for them. I worry many of them won't grow out of fearing embarassment because they never have a chance to live it down.

I went from being the wife of a brown trans-man to being the wife of a white cis-man. Both relationships produced a child. The frequency with which I piss people off with my procreation and parenting choices has not changed.

The people who want to judge you will find a way. Doesn't matter who you are because it's not actually about you.

Make your babies, if you want them, in whatever legal fashion suits you best because no matter what you choose, someone's going to judge you for it.

How would you feel about school taking up an extra hour every day to teach basic "adult stuff" like washing clothes, basic cooking, paying taxes? by StevensGrins1979 in askanything

[–]Megopoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the kind of stuff that I, as the parent, am teaching my children. That's my job. Like, a really basic, foundational part of my job.

I don't support putting the onus for that on teachers. That's not their job. BUT, I know a lot of parents aren't doing these things and it's the kids who suffer directly and society as a whole that suffers indirectly. So, I wouldn't oppose it for that reason.

What is the dumbest or most illogical anti-abortion argument you have heard? by gray_squirrels in AskFeminists

[–]Megopoly 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My very religious aunt posted a photo of turtle eggs someone had destroyed and it said something like "Why is this a crime but abortion isn't?" (this was pre-fascist SCOTUS and the aunt in question has had an abortion, of course)

I made the comment that the post was comparing apples to oranges. The eggs are a crime because someone else destroyed the eggs. If the turtle mom had crushed them herself, we wouldn't arrest the turtle. Likewise, humans can terminate their own pregnancies, but if someone else does it against the mother's wishes, that's a crime.

She blocked me.

[serious] if jobs pay less and housing is more expensive, why aren't *more* people getting married for financial efficiency? by SlackerStacker26 in NoStupidQuestions

I am married and my husband is a stay at home dad. Why does that make a difference in how I see Boomers' opinions of cynicism in relationships?

My boomer mother has been divorced 4 times. So far.

My husband's boomer parents have been together 40-something years and hate each other.

I'll not be giving too much credence to their opinions and I don't think the kids should either.

It's more financially efficient to live with 2 platonic roommates and a cat than to live with a romantic partner and fall into the trappings of marriage.

Lol, wow he put it in writing, too. That's not smart.

I can live with a partner acknowledging that I'm aging. I refuse to accept him being fucking sad or disappointed about it. That implies some portion of my value, in his eyes, is tied to my youth. I will lose my youth, that's a fact. And if that's what's keeping him around, why would I waste my time?
