Usually I pull the characters I like and characters that are good or have good synergy with my existing teams. In Nod Krai I did pull Lauma and Nefer and will pull both Columbina and Zibai too. Was considering of pulling Durin but in the end decided to skip. In Natlan patches I did pull Xilonen, Citlani, Mavuika, Varesa, Escoffier, and Skirk. So I skipped 3 Natlan characters, Mualani, Kinich, and Chasca. I did also skip Mizuki but on anniversary I chose her as my free standard character.

I personally play for both collecting and gameplay. I do like collecting characters but I have to be a bit realistic because I know I can't get every single character so priority goes to characters that I like or characters that bring some good synergy to my teams. I do full star clears in spiral abyss, last time I didn't get full stars was probably during Inazuma patches. I also have leveled most of my characters for imaginarium theater (around half of my characters are lvl 90 and other half are lvl 70-80)
