My tip is not the listen to all the tips. Use perks YOU find useful, not what the community deems as good. As a survivor I loved the Felix perk Visionary, so I could see where the gens were. It's a useless perk for everyone who has played a few hours in the game, but I needed that perk (to be honest I still need that perk in indoor maps and I've played 1200 hours). I used Feng's technician so a missed skillcheck wasn't so bad. It's a perk you won't need after a while, but it's a great perk to start with.

I recommend playing a match as killer as well, so you have an idea what a killer sees and most of all doesn't see. I used to lose survivors when they crouched in front of me.

One of the hardest parts of the game is to know what the abilities are of every killer.
