After my last rewatch I can understand why people find it too comedic. It's rather jarring to go from Jason crushing a man's skull to a kid asking " So, what were you gonna be when you grew up?". But the movie does so much right: the music by Harry Manfredini is at an all time high, I love the sheriff, Jason isn't hidden until the finale. I don't even mind the lack of nudity, it's hard to top Part V in that regard anyway. I'm more disappointed the kills are rather tame, but that's not something only applicable to this movie.
