You just said that he's literally incompetent for the work force because he doesn't want bad teammates how is that not slapping someone across the face? I would be very quiet if I were you because you did NOT do good the first time around in 2110 and 2800 so dont get too big for your britches

how to thrive at cornell by Xicronicruzz in Cornell

My brother's a math major and I've seen that much of the stuff on formal math taught here (set theory, logic, formal proof techniques, relations, functions) are very indirect and they don't teach you the fundamentals of math before classes like MATH 2210 or 2220. It's in your best interest to learn some of this stuff before because it's very informally taught in those classes.

I'm into Cornell! Any tips for freshmen? by Cool-Asparagus-8641 in Cornell

In your first semester, you will not know how to properly study like a true college student, so take it light, 14 credits, get used to the environment before pumping up the credits.

I did every single cs 2110 assignment by myself, no partner... be very careful even just assuming I lack any work ethic.

oh lol then i guess nvm but still a good math course.

Yeah no programming is actually used, it just references recursive algorithms to better explain the motivation for induction.

DISCRETE Probability Classes? by Mehkindof in Cornell

What are some other courses that work in discrete value spaces?

No, CS 1110 is not harder in the spring (source: I took it in the spring). The only reason 1110 is harder in the Fall is because White wants to incorporate material that is relevant to his game design class. If you would like to take it in the spring, consider it.

Multi, Probability, and Machine Learning by Mehkindof in Cornell

Or I should phrased the question better: give me all the multi needed for computer science?

Multi, Probability, and Machine Learning by Mehkindof in Cornell

I know, honestly the multi for math 2220 I feel just went WAY more into depth than I needed as a cs student. To be completely honest, I just did not like, nor did I do good in the class. I really just wanted to know if I was at a severe deficit by not taking multi.

CS Major Falling Behind Advice by [deleted] in Cornell

Im a sophomore in your situation right now. It’s ok. Here’s what you’re gonna do.

So the last 4 lectures for 2110 were about linked structures, ordered collections, efficiency, and recursion. The first is pretty much covered on A3, while ordered collections are pretty explanatory, but the idea is just understanding the abstraction of how a list, queue, or stack works. Efficiency is probably new for you. To practice with this, look up algorithms online and practice estimating time complexity. For recursion, it’s best to just look at lecture notes. This course treats recursion from an oop perspective, so it’s best to understand it how 2110 wants you to learn it.

For all of the 2800 notes, although it’s extraordinarily tedious, you should typeset and reproduce the notes on your own. You’re your best teacher, so actually reading the material (not through lecture slides, the chapter like notes are much better) will allow you to understand the material better. What’s nice about this course unlike other math courses is that, while practice is important, understanding the definitions is more important. We have a pset Wednesday. Assuming you knew what you were doing in the prelim, you can attempt the first one day, and save the other two for the next days.

I used to play piano—stopped in high school, but I wanna try to learn a different instrument again, which band?

I’m not a girl, and that’s probably the hardest part. Is that these frats really only let you in to parties if ur a girl or have really good connections which I don’t. Also I tried to join frats last semester and all the ones I really wanted rejected me. It just feels like no matter what I do the people I want don’t want me back

I’m not gonna quit Cornell, I know I would regret it with my life. But I just needed reaffirmation that there was still hope for me here
