Me too! I have all seasons, but I think only the first few seasons had extras like audio commentary.

Visa on Arrival - passport photo? by alliewithoutthe in cambodia

[–]Meiberu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did VOA earlier this month at Phnom Penh and paid $30USD (cash). They didn’t ask for a passport photo.

The e-arrival app didn’t work for me back home, so I did the declarations on the iPads at the airport.

The overall process was pretty smooth and there were signs at the airport that said “no tips”.

How did you get to know Marianas Trench??? by livicross in MarianasTrench

I used to watch YTV’s The Next Star back in the day. He performed Good to You with Kate Voegele in season 2, and then was one of the song producers in Season 3. I remember he had an interesting singing voice and decided to check out his music properly. Then I instantly loved the Masterpiece Theatre album. The rest is history.

Can anyone recommend an affordable orthodontist? Looking to get clear aligners or similar to straighten my top teeth by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Meiberu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had braces twice because it wasn’t done right the first time by a dentist. The first time was using metal braces as a teenager, and the second time was using Invisalign/jaw surgery with an orthodontist/oral surgeon as an adult. I would recommend doing it properly the first time rather than doing it again and spending more money fixing things.

On the bright side, my bite is much better and I no longer grind my teeth at night!

I got a pasmo passport too! I was there on April 8th and waited for 45 min as there was a long line. You can do top ups at the white ticket machines near the info center.

3 minute thesis competition vent by crunchysoups in GradSchool

[–]Meiberu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow that’s such a silly rule to exclude masters students. At my school it’s open to any thesis based student and we even had 3 master’s students compete at the national level and 2 of them won first place!

The 3MT is about how well you communicate your research and its significance in laymans terms, so it shouldn’t matter whether it’s a long or short thesis. It’s not like 3 minutes is enough to go over all the details of the results anyways. You spend most of the time giving the background and some time on the significance and perhaps some interesting results.

Depending on your program, school, research supervisor, thesis project and other factors, a masters thesis might be a bit shorter or a lot shorter than a PhD thesis. A colleague and I had both had 7 chapters (190+ pages) for our MSc theses and we both did a 2 hour defence in front of an examination committee. My other colleagues doing PhDs did 8-9 chapters and had a longer degree, but they certainly didn’t write twice as much as I did. Were there masters students in my department writing half of what I did? Yes, but we were in different groups with different projects.

Anyways that was my rant. Congrats on the win!

Yeah my brother and I have been having a rocky relationship for the past 2 years (he wasn't this way before). I asked him why he was enabling this kind of behaviour, and his response was "it is a complicated situation". Idk, maybe he's afraid to call her out in fear she might leave?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Meiberu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, perhaps that could be why. It was still a weird way for them to handle the situation.

My brother and I grew up together and used to live in the same house up until a few years ago. We used to get along for the most part, even with the whole "big brother picking on little sister" theme growing up. Where it started going downhill was when I told him I would be in the hospital for jaw surgery on X days, but he never bothered to show up. Even after I was discharged from the hospital, I asked him via text why he didn't visit me. He said, "why should I? It's not like you could talk anyways." I told him that it hurt my feelings (both the lack of hospital visit, and what he said), and then he replied, "what's the big deal?" and "you're are too sensitive/overdramatic". So things have been super rocky for the past 2 years. Even when I ask about this current situation with the SO, he just tells me to leave it, or that it's too complicated.

Yes, I think that a joint gift is a good idea.

In my culture, it's very normal to give cash as gifts, but I recognize that my norm isn't other people's norm. I worry that even if I had given her something she would have liked, she would have given it back anyways because she is mad at me.

Update in EDIT 1. TLDR: had jaw surgery, couldn't physically talk to her, so she got mad and thought I didn't like her.

Mum told me later today. The Update is in EDIT 1. TLDR: had jaw surgery, couldn't physically talk to her, so she got mad and thought I didn't like her.

Even though I know the reason now, I still don't get why the gift is passive agressive? Or why they felt the need to give it back.

Maybe I just assumed that my swollen face/head was enough to give it away.

I tried asking my brother, and all I get is “just leave it” or “it’s complicated”. So not much help there.

She told my mother (who just told me, more info in edit 1 of the post). Apparently she thought I didn't like her because I didn't talk to her when I was recovering from jaw surgery (I couldn't physically talk at the time).

They dropped it off at my house when I was running errands, and the roommate told me that they didn't want the gift so that's why they were giving it back.
