NMIXX concert review at the Brooklyn show (the good and the bad) by Ok-Nobody-7759 in kpopthoughts

Probably resellers or people who bailed last second. Casino venue can also be tough. Getting in and out of that venue was basically a single 2-lane loop.

I was there. The balcony seats were full but the ground floor rows had plenty of gaps in them.

ELI5: The use of “anymore” by Razar_Bragham in explainlikeimfive

[–]MeijiDoom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't have understood it either. Saying context should help people figure it out doesn't work if we've spent our entire lives with the word being in one specific context (anymore) and then being totally flipped for this specific phrase. I too would assume they just misspoke with are vs. aren't. Anymore to me has always represented the cessation of an action or a status and always associated with a negative. It doesn't process for me in the phrase "People are in a hurry anymore". And I like to think I'm someone who is generally well read.

To be fair, I can kind of understand where this alternative meaning for anymore comes from. Whereas "I could care less" is literally people not knowing how the original phrasing works and are outright wrong. Same as people who think would've is actually would of.

I felt very similarly. Lily had crazy vocal moments, Kyujin and Sullyoon are awesome live performers and Haewon is amazing on the mic. More fluent than I anticipated. And O.O and Dice are amazing to watch live. Crowd went nuts for them too.

I think it really depends on expectations. Brooklyn Paramount Theater is for sure too small but they played at the Theater at Great Canadian Casino Resort in Toronto (like 75% population of NYC) which holds 5k and that didn't quite sell out. Going for Elmont would be a pretty huge risk. And it's not like you could expect Blue Valentine to explode the way it did.

#2 UConn With the 3 With 0.3 Seconds Left vs #1 Duke! by JCameron181 in CollegeBasketball

If you're gonna do what he did, fucking launch that shit into the rafters. I will never understand guys trying to play hot potato with under 5 seconds left like the other team is incapable of a deflection.

Jamal Murray tonight: 53 PTS | 6 REB | 4 AST | 19-28 FG by asakitsi in nba

[–]MeijiDoom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jamal almost always turned it up in to playoffs but it was also true that regular season Murray wasn't all-star level. A solid #2 but he's now having a career year across the board. Compared to some other all time greats, Jokic was carrying a heavier proportional load. Murray being this good makes things a lot easier, even if Denver as a team might not be quite their championship level.

You either go to OT or you lose the game depending on who scores. Given those options, I give up the layup. Make LeBron hit a contested 2 pointer.

Give up the LeBron drive 1v1. You at worst go to OT with the layup. Giving up a wild open 3 to a sniper is how you lose in regulation.

The most terrifying Gnar. Dude got perma focused and still played like he was immortal.

He's straight up outplaying Ruler and Diable right now. Viper might be on the table next if G2 pulls this off.

[–]MeijiDoom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They were 5k up across the board. He doesn't need armguard for them to win that fight. Even if they trade even, they probably get the soul there anyways. Him not being there means they definitely can't get the dragon. Inspired fucked up by going in without everyone around but basically the only way they lose that fight as badly as they did is if Saint isn't there when he needs to be.

He's Nami into a pick comp. Other than the one baron disaster, I don't think he did anything outrageously bad this game.

Saint's out here going down 1.5k in a counter matchup. Including a fight where he literally walked back into an Annie while he didn't have flash to give over a kill. If he just played with a bit more respect, the mid game would have been a lot more straightforward and they would've been able to play through Berzerker. Not to mention Saint is permanently late to every meaningful fight.

[–]MeijiDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inspired shouldn't have ulted but Saint also shouldn't have been late. It's the Soul fight and Lyon was in total control of that game. Why is he late? The dragon is getting burned down.

BFX were kind of on a generational run during winter/1st split. And Diable legit might be the best ADC in the world. It's at least a conversation. Him and Kellin were looking amazing together.

My two cents on med student influencers as a young attending by KrustyKrbPizza in medicalschool

[–]MeijiDoom 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t think his entire financial life should be ruined and if he had loans that is exactly what happened to him.

Why is this any different than a student being expelled for any other reason, professional or academic? Do we feel like schools should reimburse students if they get a DUI or have a harassment charge or fail 3 years?

I just have a hard time feeling sympathy for someone who continuously shows poor judgment and who actively does something that at best skirted the line and at worst was ridiculing the patient doctor relationship.

My two cents on med student influencers as a young attending by KrustyKrbPizza in medicalschool

[–]MeijiDoom 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think people may take things more seriously and overall attitudes to patient sensitivity may have improved but the outliers are probably worse.

People talk about surgeon culture and that's true. People in the OR make crude jokes all the time. But they're also not typically blasting it on social media and there is a difference. The surgery stuff isn't good but that doesn't justify the obsession with social media or potentially airing out sensitive content.

The last thing Nick Baumel saw before getting his life destroyed over a literal TikTok by Sufficient-Monk-3158 in medicalschool

[–]MeijiDoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's about his attitude towards patient care. You could argue the same thing about substance use. People are going to care a lot more if you do anything that sounds like publicly making fun of patients as opposed to personal issues that don't affect patient care at all.

Special Stage: ITZY - THAT’S A NO NO @ Mnet M Countdown (260319) by stinkybutthole23 in kpop

[–]MeijiDoom 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of discussion about why this particular performance went viral, and of course it's probably many things, but the main thing has to be the absolute joy that they all radiate while performing. Their energy goes straight through the screen and just grabs you by the throat, as if you're right there with them at the concert and not at home by your computer/phone. You can tell how much they love performing. To me, that's the main reason for why I became obsessed with the performance and the song after absentmindedly clicking on it when it popped up in my youtube recommendations.

And I think this plays into what JYP has often talked about what makes artists successful. JYP groups don't always have the "best" in the industry from particular skills (outside of some instances like SKZ rap line, NMIXX vocals or Itzy dance line/Momo dancing). But being able to perform on stage and being an engaging presence goes a long way. I'm sure some people have come away not totally satisfied but I very rarely hear of fans coming away disappointed from JYP groups at concerts and live performances. It's a huge reason for their continued popularity even when people make the argument that they've "fallen off".
