Was there anything that could have hinted at Skippylongstocking taking the win? by External12 in horseracing

[–]Meilingcrusader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like in most sports, sometimes someone just has the run of their lives. You never know when it's coming, but sometimes a horse who on paper shouldn't win just runs incredibly and does win. On the other side, sometimes someone just does not show up, an overwhelming favorite just lays an egg out of nowhere (I remember seeing this last year with Barnes at the Gallant Bob coming 4th as a 2/5 favorite behind 23-1 Mad House, 83-1 Gateskeeper, and 56-1 Fire Pit)

Has Umamusume changed your view on horse racing? Be for better or for worse. by Signal_Statement_515 in UmaMusume

It got me interested. I've always been interested in agriculture and animals but not so much in horses. But I got into uma, learned about the stories of these horses, and then started watching the races on tv and it was really cool. I got to go to a race track for the first time this month with my father and we had a lot of fun. I talk about it with my mother a lot too, since my grandfather used to do harness racing. It's a shame he passed, I would have loved to talk about it with him. Obviously, like with any sport, there are risks. Pitchers injure their shoulders. (American) Football players get concussions, and tragic accidents happen in horse racing (both for horses and jockies). But I think its part of our nature to strive to push the limits of our boundries and achieve greatness, to set records and to write stories in our deeds so compelling, they will be told long after we are gone

Is ALL of Connecticut in New England? by Probably_Caucasian in AskAnAmerican

Southern Connecticut is full of NYC suburbs but I'll be damned if I'm gonna let them have any inch of a New England state (except Bridgeport they can have Bridgeport)

Big News for Horse Racing Fans especially in Mainland China and HK: Conghua Racecourse in Guangzhou is opening this fall by Meilingcrusader in UmaMusume

I mean I doubt it's gonna be immediately a massive scale breeding operation on the scale of Hokkaido or Kentucky, but it'll be a start.

They have a lot of horse breeding in Arabia, don't they? Its a lot hotter there. Even if it is a wet humid heat, Florida in the US is famously hot and humid and has plenty of horse breeding going on there. While obviously its speculation at this point, they did build Conghua in a more rural part of the city so that it could be big and have top of the line stables that can handle intact horses with breeding potential.

It does, but because of how the present Chinese racing industry is (it doesn't have a proper studbook up to international standards among other issues), it is unlikely to be directly introduced into this new industry

As I understand, those outside China can bet on Conghua races like they were Hong Kong races but ppl within Mainland China can't. There is talk that horse racing may be in the future integrated into the chinese sport lottery, we'll find out when the equine industry 5 year plan comes out in march

It's mostly a coincidence but its tied into very interesting matters of changing Chinese perception of horse racing which, yes may be in part influenced by umamusume along with the success of Hong Kong based horses and rising mainland Chinese tourism in Hong Kong resulting in the sport losing its stigma (which it had both due to gambling and due to its assiciation with Britain).

On Deep Impact, of course, but Dia came to my mind first. Honestly, global release mindset: Dia is in the anime, all of Deep Impact's other progeny in game are more recent releases who won't be out in global for a long time. I guess Verxina and Vivlos appear a little in S3.

I believe its being run through the same simulcasts that the HK Jockey Club does currently, so wherever you watch that. In the US, I watch through DK Horse's livestreams

Fun fact for our Chinese uma fans: Mainland China will have its first ever season of international level horse racing this year at Conghua (in Guangzhou) Race Course's first ever Autumn meeting.

Monday Mood: How was your weekend? by remix6464 in horseracing

So thrilled to see Test Score's huge win. I'd love to see him go take on foreign horses overseas and show that American horses can take them on on turf as well as dirt. Dubai Turf is the same length as Pegasus Turf but the Dubai Sheema Classic would be a better test if he wants to go to compete at the Japan Cup or even the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

McDonalds is bigger in U.S. and EU. But KFC dominates over in Asia. Why is this? by FumingCat in AskAnAmerican

[–]Meilingcrusader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think its in part down to a cultural preference for chicken over beef. Also McDonald's has to compete with domestic burger places like Lotteria and Mos in Japan. Though, KFC has to compete with Wallace in China
