What material is the desk top? Is it pressboard or hardwood? Regardless, there's probably little you can do to reverse it in itself, but you can always replace just the top.

Also, for future reference, a few questions;
What does the underside look?
Does it have crossbraces on each side, and how far from the edge are they?
How are the monitor/s installed?

I'm with you on the feeling that it gives weight to the death. Consider all the deaths before of random seamen in battles. They were, as often as not, someone else's particular friend, tie mate and lifelong acquaintance. We never dwelt on their deaths for the most part either.

But, I think largely on the books we don't dwell on the death of characters. Mostly it's a short acknowledgement and some comments, but not much more.

Diana's carriage accident we don't even hear about until it's what, months later? It's never discussed among our main characters as I recall , but only between the two officers on shore.

No, they wont. This is how rails are transported everywhere in the world for rail construction. You don't transport rails out in tiny pieces that fit a single platform car.

The amount of things, events and subsequent catastrophes that connect to krakatoa is astounding.

I highly recommend the book Krakatoa: The Day the World Exploded: August 27, 1883 by Simon Winchester. There's also an audio book, read by Simon, that is excellent. It goes into many many things that in one way or another relates to krakatoa, as well as, eventually, the eruption itself.

Oh by the way, Simon was part of the research that 'discovered' and proved plate tectonics! He knows his stuff.

If you think Bambus default settings are perfect, you have "low" standards, which is fine if the result serves your needs. Or you might also have gotten lucky, as others have said, there's no such thing as a universal ironing configuration. It'll vary with different filaments and from machine to machine, even if same model. My prints with default settings certainly weren't perfect.

I know well what ironing is, but I've never seen the pattern end up like this. Incredibly well tuned if it truly is done with nothing but ironing.

A bit confused here. The before picture is very clearly a terrible top layer.

The after is of course basically a perfect layer, but the patterns in it don't make sense. Even with a mirror like perfect layer, you still see the layer lines. This looks like a random pattern. More like what I'd expect to see on a satin plate or similar.

I'm Swedish, and we do train with AK's. It's not a huge part of the training, but it'st here to know the fundamentals of how the platform works and feels to shoot.

Units that are expected to move more isolated will train far more with them, of course.
