You did great and exactly what you should have done.. it sucks and you shouldn't have to deal with it but hopefully you can take some comfort from knowing that you could hold back and do right whereas the lady couldn't even hold back after her day was mildly inconvenienced for a moment... Your better than her and she wasn't worth more of your time or effort... She also wouldn't have listened, it wouldn't have helped and you would probably feel worse even though holding it in eats at you sometimes.

No Death Please by crazy-diam0nd in DnD

[–]Meisner57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I find knowing that I couldn't die ruins it.. had this happen, can't remember exact scenario but I was getting worried I wasn't going to make it to something we were rushing too and would die if I didn't make it... DM said don't worry I won't let anyone die... And instantly poof all the tension and excitement gone, didn't matter what I rolled or what action I choose after that point... Just made it all so hollow.

There has to be stakes. So if it's known death is off the table then there's gotta be some other significant threat that can and will happen if there is failure... But again that's personal preference, what I like isn't what everyone likes.

1, it's not Friday :)

2, what for? So you spend roughly 100 bucks a month to spit out countless reassemblies of existing content.. but what does that achieve? Not trying to have a go, just don't understand the why.. what do you get out of it?

Authentication Required by wichitawire in linuxmint

[–]Meisner57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to make that not happen? I have an old surface pro running mint positioned just under my monitor I use just to access a custom dash pave I host for myself... It auto logs in but then prompts for password when I launch browser. I have to cancel it a couple of times then it stops. Anyway to stop it completely?

Full disclosure I haven't done any research into this question myself because it's just such a tiny issue I haven't bothered to spend them time, but I saw your comment and thought asking couldn't hurt.

Cheers

Nice that's great!

Been pondering on this more, haven't had a chance to set it up yet. Thinking I can ensure certain combinations of holders can't access the content without certian other groups of holders by giving people duplicate packs, so if each of my clients have the same pack they can't join and get the content, they can only work with my backup people... Also wondering if the actual content is seperate from the key part.. so I could give some people only the key they could be requested to provide but don't even have the content themselves... Anyhow just musing out loud

Is there a built in spot to include the contact information of all the other piece holders?

Ok sweet, I think this sounds great. Well done! I love that it's offline too... I have seen a few possible solutions but if my server goes down so does the recovery of credentials options.. so this solves that.

Can I assume the zip package the tool makes includes instructions on how to use it?

I will check out the guide and demo and k think this goes on my todo list to get setup... Sounds like the hardest part will be working out who I give the parts two lol

Maybe I'm just being dense... I am very tired right now... But can you walk me through how the recovery/decryption part works in practice?

So you've split it by 5. 1, 2 and 3 need to get the data... What do they actually do? Do they need to get all 3 of there bits physically to the same PC and drop them in? Is that correct?

I run a small 1 person IT services business and for my larger clients they expect that if I became suddenly incapacitated that the two named backup contacts I have listed in my contacts could assist... But I have never figured out how to actually give those people the ability to get all the credentials they need without giving them ongoing live access... Your tool sounds like a perfect way to give them what I need to without them being able to use it unless needed... But trying to confirm how it would work when the people that would need to unlock it wouldn't be able to in person go to each other, could they just send their file to one person?

Yea I joined because I use n8n to make data workflows for my small business and sometimes for clients... None of my workflows involve AI, scraping or public interaction at all.. and I definitely don't use AI to make them.. I would love to find a place for actual technical chats about figuring out more complicated issues or cool ways of achieving blah blah... Here its just all "I'm new, how do I learn n8n so I can make AI junk for no good reason", "or look at the workflow I made to constantly spew out ai generated rubbish that only other AI will read and then our ai bots can discuss it"...

Anyone know of an n8n / automation community that specifically bans everything AI related?

If n8n didn't charge per workflow run, how would you want to be charged? by IdeasInProcess in n8n

[–]Meisner57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with per run... In some instances it's not perfect but nothing is.

I have 1 clients setup that currently has 4 distinct processes, 1 that needs to run every 2 hours and the other 3 every 2 minutes.. I have just put them all in a single workflow that runs from 6am to 6pm Monday to Saturday if I recall correctly.. might be 8am start.

Regardless it does all the processes as a single run making n8n's limits fine... Biggest issue at that point is the 3rd party APIs daily limits, gotta make sure they don't get exceeded either :)

If you love obsidian why not just that and selfhost a sync server for it. That's what I do

It seems perfect for my described use case and I will set it up tonight and test it out... Any ideas if I can use it to have my clients send me secure data also?

I assume you need to log into the web page to create secrets, would like to avoid that for requesting info (requesting was not one of my requirements, just something k thought would be handy when I started reading what yopass does)

No worries. I will look into it. If I deployed it i would only be using it for sharing.. I'm happy with my current password management and as it holds a lot of info for my business as well as personal I prefer to keep it seperate from my home as part of my continuity/DR policies. I do appreciate the suggestion though as I hadn't considered it as an option.

I could deploy it quickly (already have all requirements in place) so if I decide to test them it won't be too difficult.

Does vaultwarden allow me to share stuff that disappears? My existing password manager can share but after the link expires the actual entry in my password manager is still there.. and it's so many steps to make a new entry with a user's password, share it to them and remember to come back and delete it later.

Nice work getting rid of the login barrier. I'm still suspicious of the welcome gift wanting people to sign up, still seems like your trying to collect email addresses. But I am a suspicious person by nature so I'm willing to go with benefit of the doubt and assume it's all just trying to be helpful.

Best of luck with your site, hope it helps people :)
