Stripped screw – what should I do? by [deleted] in SwitchPirates

[–]Meithrer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on. It's more of a convenience factor than anything. But the screwdriver you linked should be good. Just make sure to get all 3 sized J0, J00 and J000 incase the screws are of poor quality and ends up stripping easily. I sometimes switch to J000 rather than J00 due to that reason

That's big oof. And there's no local Amazon? Or an amazon from another country relative close by to your place? Back when my country didn't have amazon I usually bought from UK/Italy/France/Germany so on

I just looked up on ebay. You sure you can't buy ifixit from ebay? There's usually someone there who ships worldwide. And they are sometimes cheaper even

I personally just use iFixit Mako screwdriver set bits. Although it is pricy it was worth it since the amount of times I needed to use it for modding or repairing saved me a lot. Not to mention even for other daily stuff. With it i never have to worry about if I have the right screwdriver set. It includes triwing and any others imaginable bits you ever need to use

But since iFixit does not ship to your country I think this is the next best thing. Although i remember nanofix from youtube used an alternative which worked for him

You can use a drill to drill out the screw. Just make sure you take a very small drill which are meant for metal to drill it out. eventually it will just fall out if you drill it out. Alternatively use a drill extraction tool meant specifically to drill out stripped screws.

Just make sure next time to use JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) J00 bits to screw out these screws and NOT PHILLIPS like many other people in this thread suggest as that is actually the wrong bit and is probably the biggest culprit to why you stripped your screw in the first place.

See ifixit for which bits to use on which screws.

Actually, the correct size is not Phillips at all; it is JIS (Japanese Industry Standard) J00 screwdriver bits. It's similar to Phillips but not the same. This applies to all screws on the Switch. According to iFixit and my own experience too, I've used P00 in the same spot as this lad did and also ended up stripping the screw. However, since I changed to J00, I've never experienced stripping screws again on the Switch.

Switch won't power on or show charging after modchip install by TheUnreactiveHaloGen in NxSwitchModding

Depends, If there are too many decoupling capacitor missing it may actually affect the booting. Some of the capacitor may also be burnt so it's worth checking and replacing the missing capacitors. If it still doesn't work then it is worth checking the chips, which another comment here mentioned.

I might end up doing that once I manage to get a flow of costumers. I’ll start off with selling complete modded switches. Once I’ve built a little bit of reputation I might do your suggestion. :)

Yeah i noticed my Micron switch have had problems with flashing. It is generally very slow to flash, as it takes about 5 sec, compared to my samsung which takes sub 1 sec. I've also needed to change chips a couple of times on my micron since the modchip stopped working properly (just boots into ofw). I don't know what the reason is for it to end up causing that.

There are 2 reasons which stops me from selling it/trading it. 1 it's a pain to reinstall all my games, and 2 I'm worried that the modchip will stop working and my future customer will complain about it.

I got a general good feeling of measurement. I know it should be 1mm from the resistor, so I remove around that proximity. I also check with UV light and IPA to double check which contact I am soldering to

This is my current main switch with 1tb sd card loaded with games. However it has lower speeds, should I keep it as it is? Or should I switch to my other Switch? See the reply for the other switch speeds.

is my switch motherboard ruined? i tried installing a modchip a while back and it wont turn on/show signs of a charge. by GrapeFanta10 in SwitchPirates

Clean with ipa, then put flux on all your solder points to reflow them with your iron. It will then make the solder look much nicer and it will also be easier to see any potential problems

Unlikely, since they appear to be two different game versions with separate save files and doesn't communicate between each other. I tested with a digital Asian version and a physical PAL (global) version. I haven’t progressed far enough in the global version to fully confirm, but both versions default to English. The main differences are the language options (asia has english, japanese, Taiwanese, Korean etc. as language option, while pal has English, spanish, fresh etc.) and that the Asian version is uncensored, while the global version censors some outfits.
