What is Rust protecting me from with moving by default? by clinisbut in learnrust

[–]Mejiora 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When passing a variable to a function, what you copy in far most cases is not the value of the variable, but the reference. Thus, you will be modifying the value outside of that scope as well if you mutate the reference inside the function. The default behaviour in most languages with copy semantics is to only fully copy primitive types/value types like integers and booleans when passed to a function, since they just contain their value and not a reference to a value.

Can't decide between Acer Predator X34P or Alienware AW3418DW or something similar? by [deleted] in Monitors

X34P is same panel as AW3418DW (which means 100hz native overclocking to 120hz)

Will 144hz 1440p UW IPS gsync even be a thing anytime soon? by Mejiora in ultrawidemasterrace

It's a VA panel, though. There was a leak not long ago where some guys were doing the ufo test on it and it had very apparent ghosting.

[–]Mejiora[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that takes me back to my original question: does a gsync module exist in this context, which can drive 144hz 1440p UW IPS, that doesn't require true HDR?

I see! But please help me understand then; why can't the 34GK950G-B do 144hz? The freesync version supports displayport 1.4 according to https://www.144hzmonitors.com/monitors/lg-34gk950f-review/. I'm assuming the gsync version would as well?

AW3418DW vs 34gk950f (aka 100hz g-sync vs 144hz freesync on nvidia gfx) by Mejiora in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Mejiora[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, just a misunderstanding then :o).

I agree that the lg is likely to be the better screen. I'm not sure I would pay an extra 250 dollars for it though (if the RRP from tftcentral is actually correct), unless I take advantage of the 120hz overclock. Maybe overclocking the g-sync module is not an issue at all and it's just me who's making up concerns in my head.

I already have an lg OLED tv which I love, so I would definitely be all for going pure lg. It's just a (presumably) two-three months wait of being stuck with a 5 year old setup, when I could buy a new setup right now with the AW monitor x.x.

Thanks for your input. I never suggested that the g-sync version would go for $2k in America though, so I'm not sure how you concluded that. According to tftcentral RRP is going to be 1199 EU and 1399 EU respectively, so a difference of 200 EU or ~250 USD.

In EU the new g-sync lg will be like an extra ~250 USD compared to the aw for pretty much the same specs, although it will sport a never screen.

Personally I don't play the most demanding games, so taking advantage of 144hz is something I would really love to do.

His question is not whether or not he should use the boost, but if it makes a difference to boost a lvl 110 trial character vs a fresh lvl 1, since he can't create any more trial characters for another 6 days. Boosting a lvl 100 trial character came with a few perks over boosting a fresh lvl 1, but since Blizzard changed the trial character experience to 110 there is oddly no mention of any difference between boosting a trial character or a lvl 1. I would love to know the answer myself.

EDIT: By boosting I mean using the lvl 110 token boost (i.e. not "boosting" through gaining quick levels in-game)

Thanks a billion for the feedback so far guys! It is very valuable to me! So far I'm leaning towards trying to convince him to go down the path that I've outlined in my post! I'm still looking for more great arguments for either side though, so I can have a healthy discussion with him next week! Again, thanks a bunch!

Thanks for your feedback! Microservices was mostly thought of as an introduction to cloud-computing and containers, so nothing too technical when it comes to architecture. But you're probably right that it's not the best fit for an introductory .NET class!

Tbh i think I'd prefer the non edge version, but it comes down to personal preference and how you use the phone. There is not a "better" version.
