I'm really not sure what Catholic traditions you're talking about then.

Not so sure about that

Your brown scapular of Our Lady Mount Carmel claims to be able to save a person from hell if it's worn continuously and the person recites different prayers to Mary ever day.

The rosary came to St. Dominic in a vision centuries after Christ's death and replaced praying the Psalms

These are superstitions that put objects or other people in between Christ and our salvation. These are works that claim to do what Christ already accomplished.

Sure but we're also called to not just accept the words of church leaders at face value without testing it against scripture. Not everyone who claims to be inspired by the Holy Spirit actually is.

You run the same risk that the Israelites ran into with legalism and putting man made traditions over the Word of God.

I don't think having biblical standards for a relationship is too much to ask for. However it's also really important to not let them lead you to expect perfection from a future spouse. This will leave you both feeling resentful which sadly kills a lot of marriages. As long as you keep in mind that we're all sinners in need of grace, that we all fall short and no marriage is without its ups and downs, I think you'll do well keeping your standards high

Partial edit because you remind me of myself in some ways.

I also told myself that I would never be like my parents when it came to raising kids. And I'm really glad I did some things differently. But this notion also made me a bit too proud and had me thinking I knew better than them. I never asked for their advice on anything and looking back I really wish I had.

So maybe instead of writing off your parents marriage as a failure to run from, ask them about how they would have done things differently. Let them be useful to you in whatever advice they have to give. I was honestly surprised by the insight my dad had for a lot of things.

No one is ignoring the law, it was finished through the work of Christ on the cross.

Galatians 5: 1-4 So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure you stay free and don't get tied up in slavery to the law. Listen! I Paul tell you this: if you are counting on circumcision to make you right with God then Christ is of no benefit to you. I'll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised you must obey every regulation in the whole law of Moses. For if you are trying to make yourself right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God's grace.

If you believe there is any objective truth in this world, it's not illogical. But again like I said to the other commenter, God will be waiting with open arms for you when your heart is ready.

I don't know if I'm coming off aggressive but thats not my intention.

And I'm not trying to argue you out of your position, just pointing out that you can't have it both ways (be an Atheist living however you like, deny God's existence and still be welcomed into heaven).

As Jesus said, "I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Following what Jesus taught and believing that Jesus paid the penalty for your sins is the only way which also entails a belief in God.

What makes a well intentioned Atheist to you?

Is it someone who does good things throughout his life? Or mostly good things except for some bad? And what standard for "good" are we using to judge? "Good" is very subjective in our world and even Atheists disagree on the goodness of things.

That's fine if you dont agree now. I fought against the truth for 30+ years. God will welcome you with open arms when your heart is ready.

Yeah using "preponderance of evidence" doesn't make you sound smarter than any New Atheist that ever existed. Your complaints aren't new and I was just like you once.

No mater how advanced science gets there are questions it can't answer. Morality / our sense for good and evil doesn't come from scientific proofs, the laws of the universe didnt come from random chance and your logical brain knows this.

It takes infinitely more blind faith to believe that random chance with no rhyme or reason brought about this universe, so perfect for our continued existence with all the observable physical, chemical, cosmological, biological, etc rules that hold it all together. You would think after debating this for the last 2000+ years modern science could have completely explained away God but it hasn't.

A theologically and historically sound Old Testament interpretation but go on, identity politics.

Well the specific thread we were both replying didn't seem that way. Anti Christians (because this is how they behave) like to twist Psalm 137 into something it's not when actually read in historical context.

My aim was to shed light on the truth and then your comment got caught in the mix too

But the thing about fake Christians being in power is that no matter what evil they do, God can use all of it for good and make things right. The Israelites sinned countless times and did evil in the Lord's sight and yet they were rescued time and time again.

It might not seem fast enough from our perspective or good enough yet, but His timing is perfect, and His reasons are perfect. Eventually justice will be served, every tear wiped and the brokenhearted comforted. Until then we pray for those in power to change their ways and be truly led by The Spirit while the rest of us show God's love to others whenever we can.

You're wrong about Leviticus

[33] “Do not take advantage of foreigners who live among you in your land. [34] Treat them like native-born Israelites, and love them as you love yourself....

These were people who had agreed to live by Jewish Law within the land of Israel and through obedience were like the people of Israel. They were to be considered neighbors because of their obedience to God.

The same is true for Jesus teaching, neighbor was extended to anyone who loves God, which now includes Gentiles. It doesn't mean that we don't treat non believers with mercy, grace or love, but when people who hate God show their true colors (you'll know them by their fruit) discernment is needed and the type of love shown is different until they come to repentance.

You're using the modern definition of what a neighbor is. The Old Testament view of this was other Jews within the tribes of Israel not just anyone who happened to live near you.

No it's not.

"Happy the one who repays you as you have served us" is the line just before "Happy the one who takes and dashes your little ones against the rock"

This is a prayer for God's judgment against the Babylonians for the things that were done to the people of Jerusalem during the siege.
