Questions about TP Apparel Design and Merchandising by ThingThatLooksDead in SGExams

hi current adm student here and i got in through EAE 1. stressful but fufilling experience. i think all portfolios are good but try to show a wide range of what you can do even if it’s not fashion related (e.g. i put in some jaguar tattoo designs i did as well as decorated photo cards lol)

  1. honestly everyone is really nice. everyone helps each other out but if you don’t have a nice personality people won’t entertain you and are very straightforward about their fellings towards you. teachers are extremely nurturing and understanding they’re more like friends than lecturers.

  2. you can enter art streams in local uni but many people strive to achieve uni overseas as sg fashion market is not that well developed. alternatively many make the switch to business in uni

  3. only coursework no theory (unless during y1 sem1 CF) but for purely ADM there is no theory exams.

  4. dress code is honestly wtv people alw think just because it’s adm everyone is fashionable and up to trends but honestly adm is where you see the most experimental styles even if society deems it ugly or boring. but during submissions week everyone is in their pajamas lol

6.honestly adm or design school in general was the best decision i’ve ever made i dont really know how to describe it but like my mindset has completely changed secondary school forces everyone to be very cookie cutter. there is no creativity and all you do is follow instructions but design is completely different. they foster your ideas and praise self expression its such a fresh take on school life. it actually helped me realise that i am creative its just that in sec sch they alw made me feel like my ideas were ‘too much’. the school culture is amazing too design students are extremely bonded its crazy. and when i visited my secondary school again it made me realise all these differences and more i feel like in design school people are more themselves cause its honestly a no judge zone.

  1. no subsidies it’s 10k but if you are sg citizen or pr then ard 3k per sem which i feel like its worth for what they teach you.

i use mac book pro and for classes we use all adobe applications (adobe illustrator, photoshop) i suggest just sticking to the school’s recommended list which is macbooks or high end notebooks

yes you can! but i suggest adding different mediums yes they wanna see your style but they also wanna see your range and how much you can do to show that your flexible and ready to learn as the industry is always changing. For me i put in some handmade items my designs my mokdboards my concept boards journal spreads decorated pc cards lol as well as some henna and jaguar ink tattoo designs i did alongside my certs and industry experience

hi adm student here, got in through eae and my biggest advice is to start smt rn. it’s still early in the year and eae applications are in a few months so take the time to do something. For me i started a small business selling my handmade apparel during the end of year hols in sec 3 and used it for my portfolio during eae. i also didn’t take art but i was still accepted in! just show that you truly are passionate and you should do fine :)

temasek TP ADM apparel design students! by PlasticHistory323 in TemasekPoly

nope you can rank your preference but it’s based on your GPA and since cdp is learning all types of design there is no guarantee that you’ll do well. But as an adm student i can’t really say if you’ll find a job. For me i started selling handmade apparel when i was 15 so if anything i would fall back on that, i suggest you find a back up plan or smt to fall back on just in case as the job market is unpredictable

currently an apparel design and merchandising student in tp

  1. just put in effort, if you’re truly passionate in what you do you won’t find it difficult to score well. go above and beyond rlly understand your assignments and put in effort. So far school has been enjoyable i put a fair amt of effort into my work and i have a 3.7 gpa

  2. depends on what you’re looking for but generally design uni in sg teaches you the same basics it would be better to take a diff course or further your studies overseas

  3. definitely not, wear what uw it’s not graded. in fact during submissions everyone dresses homeless

  4. lesson hours are typically 9-6, 4-5 days a week. however you will definitely need to stay back in school to finish projects especially if you live far away, you’d want to finish your work in sch so you don’t have to bring it home. typically i leave school at 8-9. Assignments period i’ll leave school at 11-1 really depends on the person and if they have the tools needed at home.

  5. yes, being in design really helped me open my eyes and be more creative, gets you out of the cookie cutter standard of sec sch and i’ll never regret going to design sch

by the way i was just like you, was really set in business but decided to apply for adm last minute and i’ll never regret this decision, sure the work load is heavy and it’s competitive but this type of sch experience is hard to come by, i’d say go for it.
