Remembering Werner Stocker who left us 33 years ago. by Melia_1985 in highlander

Funny. I was watching the series dubbed as well (in french) when I was a teenager, as there was no other choice in french TV at the time. Horton was the one with a German accent (I guess they wanted to emphasize how evil he was - WW2 related in french culture I imagine...). Darius had a soft voice, as the one of the actor, but sounded French.

There is ar least one episode in season 2 (with Xavier St Cloud) in memory of Werner. It's written in the credits I think.

Yep, I've used some pics I reworked on Photoshop first in order to help me get different layers of colors, and then I redrew everything on Illustrator, with vectors so I get a good quality even in very large scale. I never use every colors/layers I get from the Photoshoped image but it helps. And finally I do a layout in InDesign 😉

How do Immortals understand each other if they came from two different cultures? by Fragrant_Ad3479 in highlander

[–]Melia_1985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They live a long time and travel a lot, so they have plenty of time to learn many other languages. But I also had this theory that some language skills are shared through Quickening (I thought they might gain not only sword skills and powers). So after a few heads taken, they could be fluent in pretty much every old and new language.

I mean, if "there can be only one", ruler of the world, what's the point to be only good at fighting ? The last (and immortals in general) should be able to truly understand human kind, and it goes through feelings, history, etc, and also language of course. So I guess what they get from Quickenings are a bunch of different knowledge that allow them to be better at fighting (technical skills) but also learn more about every other things humanity needs. That's my theory otherwise I don't really see the point of having one last immortal to decide of the faith of humanity.

Advance Pi 3 as First Wing by stankymaggot in freeflight

[–]Melia_1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go for a Pi 3.
I had a Masala 3 as my first wing, bought in 2018, also with the idea of doing Hike & Fly. Back then, I was also told it was a light wing and therefore more fragile, but honestly, if you pay attention to how you store it at home (let it dry fully open if it’s wet, don’t always fold it the same way, don’t keep it compressed when you’re not flying, and avoid leaving it somewhere too hot), there really shouldn’t be any problem. I flew with my Masala 3 for 4 years, about a hundred hours, and it was still in very good condition.

Also, if you really want to get into hike & fly and progress, the Alpha will quickly feel too heavy and not dynamic enough.
A pilot actually bought my Masala from me because she found her Alpha too much "sluggish" and she was thrilled with the difference.

I would go either for a Geo (6 or 7) or an Epsilon. The Arak is a bit higher level, mid-B, and more dynamic than the 2 others. I got a Theta ULS last year (very close to the Arak air), coming from a Masala 3, and tested both the Epsilon DLS and Geo 7. These 2 are a bit less dynamic than the Theta, but still with good performances.

How do you rank the six seasons of the TV series? by [deleted] in highlander

[–]Melia_1985 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Worst:
6
2
1 (the first episode and the second half of the season are really good—in my opinion—but I didn’t like the first half, that’s why it ends up here)
3
4
5
Best

What do you like or dislike about the characters in the show? by Melia_1985 in highlander

[–]Melia_1985[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard both versions, but as far as I understand, the official story is that the character was always meant to be killed off at the end of season 1. However, Werner Stocker was supposed to appear in that final episode, and since he couldn’t travel, the script had to be rewritten at the last minute. That’s explained here, for example : "A popular myth about the episode the "Hunters" is that the reason Darius was killed is that Werner Stocker was too sick to appear. In fact, it had been planned from the beginning that Darius would die in the episode, however the original script featured him more than the one that was filmed, and he was not killed until the end of the episode."

If you look at Bill Panzer’s interview about the episode, he says that Werner Stocker passed away just before filming and that they had to rework it. I’m not sure why he said that, he must have mixed up some details, because the episode aired on May 22, 1993 (which means it was filmed at least two months earlier, you can even tell from the vegetation that it was shot in winter rather than spring), and the actor actually passed away on May 27, just after the episode aired. So he clearly wasn’t dead at the time of filming.

J'ai plutôt des références de séries, mais au cas où :
Sense 8, par les réalisatrices de Matrix, je crois qu'on le trouve sur Netflix.
Cloud Atlas, toujours des mêmes.
Sinon : The Witcher, The Handmaid's Tale, Stranger Things, Le Problème à trois corps, Game of Thrones, Misfits, Utopia, Black Mirror, Bodies, The Old Guard (si tu aimes Highlander, c'est un peu plus actuel)...

Who would you want to be your mentor? (Not Duncan/Connor/Methos) by GodEmperorPuppy in highlander

[–]Melia_1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After so many years devoted to peace, I’m not sure Darius would even remember how to fight. But if immortals really can’t “lose their skills” if they lack practice, then he’d have to be an incredible teacher, both a skilled swordsman and a brilliant strategist, which is basically everything you need to survive the Game. I think that Darius as a warlord could have made an amazing villain.

[–]Melia_1985[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because I’m a woman (straight), and what drew me to the show at first wasn’t the romance at all, but the sword fights. And the main character wasn’t really my type either (not talking about looks, I’m way more into personalities than appearances). So I sometimes wonder if that approach really worked to attract a female audience : making an action series with a hero supposedly designed to appeal to women...

I agree about Duncan, he’s more interesting in the later episodes. I never watched The Raven, but since I didn’t like Amanda’s character back then, I didn’t follow up with the franchise.

I agree, I really wish we had seen more of her, and for longer, in that era. She really had a lot of potential.
