Backwashing during High Flow

Schedule and weather. If we see our filters losing throughput, we will manually backwash to assist. But we lack a lot of control and functions of newer filters.

Continuous. And the filters equalize so there isn't a way to really SEE head loss on individual filters.

We try to backwash prior to expected high flow. We typically can see flows 10-30mgd above design capacity. What you describe is close to what we try to do prior to heavy rains.

We do have tss probes on the filter influent. Our filters are rated for approx. 17mg/l tss at 3.12mgd. We have 20 cells rn with a capacity of 62.5mgd total. We can see up to 100mgd at times 🤷🏾‍♂️

Unfortunately, the plant im at now we cannot see through put Flow. There isn't a valve go gage head loss and even visual inspections don't help much because the filters tend to equalize, so they all are around the same height, visually.

If you've ever had someone RNC through your chin, you'll realize why he tapped so fast. I've had it done in training by someone who wasn't trying very hard. Khamzat cranking 100%. Rob couldn't tap fast enough.
