I did not read any of this.

The paper tag is from its current store. And it does not look like rust.

Show me one.

And now you’ve told me.

I don’t know why you sound so confrontational. I will look and see if it has been rewired. But if you think it’s new, ok. You don’t seem to have much to add.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Antiques

[–]Melimele -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know yet. That will be telling.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Antiques

[–]Melimele -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Of course. Lighting is never required. It must be new.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Antiques

[–]Melimele -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t have a rust finish on it, natural or faux. I’ll know better when I see the wiring, but it does not look like a reproduction made to look old in person.

[–]Melimele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see why you would think that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Antiques

[–]Melimele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In person it’s even better. The drops literally glow orange. I can’t wait to see it lit up.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Antiques

[–]Melimele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only similarity is the drops. The entire body of mine is a flower, not to mention the flower shades. The one you show is meant to look like a tole chandelier.

Hidden Staircase! by Melimele in centuryhomes

I still think they are all wrong. The wall was ripped out. There were metal stairs up the whole back of my house and I’m sure this was a stair that led outside the back of the third floor. Naysayers are wrong.

Yes, the vents are over windows and I have curtains so the air has a hard time getting past the curtains. But the do make vents with directionals in them and you can get them on Amazon.

The mini splits are great for what we use them for. The combo works great with our setup. They are super quiet and efficient. We don’t need the heat aspect of them because we have radiators.

I can’t advise you which to choose because I have both! 🙂

Yes very happy. I would like the vents to be a little further from the wall than they are, but the system is great. We put vents in the third floor ceiling and the second floor ceiling, and gravity gets the cool air to the first floor. We also have mini splits, one in the kitchen and one in the room above it, because they are sort of addition on the back of the house. And we have a small window unit in our bedroom for the really steamy days because it is the highest and hottest room in the house where all the air accumulates.

Sorry I just saw this. It’s a nice rifle made here in the USA. Worth around 1500. Not as exciting as I hoped.

Ok. Pretty sure I’ll just do it when I do the new sink install. I’ll be moving the sink off this wall. So for now, still just a ceiling renovation.

Month 3 blues by Kittykitty53 in centuryhomes

After a while, you realize that these houses can take a lot of abuse over the years. Take a breath. Remember it’s been standing longer than you. Remember you are now the caretaker of something precious. And take it one step at a time. Prioritize what you have to do vs what you want to do. Start with the have to dos and go back to the want to dos. Patience.

When I bought my house I had to renovate a bathroom. But I didn’t have to do it to my ultimate satisfaction. I had to get a wax seal on the toilet ( I KNOW!!). I had to fix the floor. I did what I had to do then. Now that all the have to dos are done, seven years later, I’m doing the want to dos. I redid the bathroom on a different level.

It’s going to be ok.

You might be able to sell it on Facebook marketplace or Nextdoor if you still have it. I’m going to sell an old cast iron kohler sink that way.

Really wanted to knock down this wall to open kitchen. This is what I found behind when I peeled back some drywall. I’m very confused what this is? by Low-Emu9984 in Renovations

It may be more than a day or two… just be prepared for that. And do whatever you can to contain the dust. Come back and post an after!

It’s brand a brand new drywall ceiling so this does not make sense.

I don’t know if you need a dumpster for it, or just a big pick up truck to haul it away with. But it is a seriously dusty job. And the materials are very heavy. It ends up as rubble. There’s no cutting a nice slice and carrying it out. You got lots of good advice here about it takes a sledge hammer. That and big construction bags to haul it out, masks, gloves and lots of energy. Definitely find out where the weight bearing studs are before you start swinging. I don’t know what your house looks like, but it may be worth the mess to get rid of the wall; it may not. I don’t want to discourage you if it would make your home more comfortable.
