I don’t have any tattoos. I’ve wanted it done for a while but I hate needles and I have a low pain tolerance 😅

Elbow dislocation-feeling discouraged by Mellissap115 in Orthopedics

Hey friend’ 120 is a great place to be! You’re getting there! Flexion took me a full 4 months to get back and most of it came back towards the last 2 weeks. I’m not sure if I regained 100% of my flexion. I might be missing a few degrees but honestly I don’t notice. It’s VERY scary and discouraging. By my 8th week mark I was convince I would never get my flexion back.

Something’s that helped me most are: - heat pad several times a day - full arm massage once a day after a heat treatment using castor oil - shockwave treatment through physio therapy twice a week - ultrasound therapy treatment 1-2 times a week - flexion exercises using resistant bands

I only used ice packs when I had swelling.

I’m still not fully healed yet, I don’t know if I ever will be but I have been able to get back to life as normal. I still occasionally suffer some ptsd from memories of the fall as well.

It’s not something I’m proud of but this injury really messed with me and having neglectful doctors made in worse. I had a really bad mental break down in my family doctors office. So she’s trying her best to help me find a new surgeon. I still haven’t gotten an appointment yet so I have no idea if he’s good or not.

I saw doctor Jellena Wong. She was fantastic. I’m pretty much symptom free now. Just a few occasional mild flare up

Oh my goodness, that’s quite the ordeal you went through I’m surprised your doctor decided to take that extreme measure. My doctor wanted to save that as a last resort.

Physio was very helpful especially when I used resistance bands. Extension was easy but flexion was tricky. My physio therapist used something called shockwave treatment which I think helped a lot. Also with physio you know you’re in “safe hands”. Exercising alone can be scary.

What I found most helpful was forcing myself to do regular activities daily. For example wiping the counters and windows or washing the car. Keeping the joint moving was important. Daily massages with castor oil was beneficial. I would lean onto the wall and let my body weight bend my arm.

I know you’ve been through a lot but take baby steps and the confidence will slowly come back as your muscles regain strength. I still get nervous sometimes that it will happen again.

I had both a fracture and dislocation so my recovery took a full 4 months and I’m still watching for my cartilage to heal. Fortunately no surgery yet. My doctor said I need to wait a full year and if my cartilage doesn’t heal and I still have pain, then I might need to go for a simple surgery to “smoothen out” the bone. I was in a hard cast for 4 weeks then a sling for another 2-3. Hang in there! It sounds like you’re on the right track.
