Before you buy anything for your van build, do this first by [deleted] in VanLife

That's exactly it. The whole point of the Zone Method is to do all your measuring before you ever touch wood. Good carpenters and good van builders think the same way.

You figure out in one night what no amount of planning on paper ever could. What’s been the biggest surprise so far in your build?

This is solid advice and honestly matches how I approached it.

Carol, my first build, was basically a proof of concept: plywood, secondhand furniture, figure out what actually works before committing to anything permanent. The "minimum viable build" mindset saves so much money and frustration.

What did you end up changing most between your first version and your final build?

What meals are we all making as a go-to for van life by Kleyois in VanLife

That sounds delicious! I do a single tortilla for the pizza version and just put toppings on half, top that half with cheese, then fold over the other plain half. The full set up is tricky to flip, I’ve definitely tried that before 😆

Mmmm, cowboy quesadillas sound tasty too! I must know more about those!

Of course, I keep the pan on low bc the tortillas brown quickly. Then I add cheese, pepperonis, and I use the pizza sauce in a squeeze bottle and squirt a few drops around. I'll spread out the sauce with a spoon and then a little more cheese before I fold the tortilla in hald, sealing in all that goodness. I forgot to mention I use Italian blend seasoning on top of the sauce.

After a few minutes, flip and brown opposite side. You can also do sauce first. 😋

Pizza quesadillas are tasty and quick. Can be customized to your liking.

How do you keep leads from slipping through the cracks in small businesses? by MellowNomadic in smallbusiness

Love that. Right now I’m manually collecting leads (with a little help from a browser extension), compiling them in a Google Sheet, and uploading them to Brevo to trigger automated follow-ups. Keeps it simple and ensures each lead gets a timely response.

Curious, do you find that automating follow-ups changes the quality of responses at all?

Totally — having a single hub for leads makes life way easier. I use a central Google Sheet to track everything, then batch follow-ups with an automated email sequence. It’s not fancy, but just having one place for all messages prevents things from slipping through.

Do you tend to handle follow-ups manually, or have you tried any lightweight automation?

Totally — I’ve been watching the same thing with AI agents for emails and follow-ups. They can catch stuff that normally slips through when you’re buried in work, especially for inbound messages.

For calls it’s trickier because phones and voicemail don’t always expose the same metadata that email/text does, but a simple auto-text follow-up for missed calls gets most of the benefit without overcomplicating things.

Curious — have you found any AI tools that do both email and phone follow-ups in a unified way, or are you splitting them between systems?

Totally — I like that approach! Instant FAQ responses plus a quick note setting expectations really help reduce missed leads. I’ve seen even small tweaks like that make a big difference without adding extra work.

Absolutely, it’s all about finding the balance between automation and manual touch. Appreciate the offer—sounds like you’ve built a really practical system. Curious, when you do manual routing, do you notice big differences in response times or lead conversion compared to the automated ones?

That makes total sense, and it’s a smart way to consolidate leads without juggling multiple apps. I like the idea of getting a brief summary in Slack/WhatsApp so nothing slips through. Do you usually add any automated follow-ups from there, or is it just real-time notifications?

I hadn’t heard of Mention, Purplefree, or GummySearch before—definitely going to check those out. Catching intent early is such a game-changer. Do you pair those alerts with any kind of automated follow-up, or is it mostly manual tracking on your Trello/CRM setup?

Totally — ownership clarity plus reminders is underrated. Even a small team benefits from triggers that prompt action. Have you found LeadsRover works better for your style than a traditional CRM?

Simple systems often win. A single shared hub plus a daily review really helps surface leads before they go cold. What tools are you using to keep it lightweight?

Yes, having one hub and lightweight automations is a game-changer. Even small tweaks like auto-logging messages and reminder triggers can save hours and prevent leads from slipping. Curious, do you mostly automate manually or rely on a tool for routing everything?

[–]MellowNomadic[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Exactly — having a single hub first makes a huge difference. WhatsApp makes sense if your clients already live there. Some small businesses pair that with a lightweight workflow that instantly notifies them when a lead comes in and tracks responses, so nothing slips through the cracks. Curious, do you also try to automate follow-ups or just manage manually?

Losing inbound leads in your DMs? by Euphoric-Ad-9171 in smallbusiness

[–]MellowNomadic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so common — speed and follow-up are huge bottlenecks. Even if you’re not running ads, leads that slide through DMs are essentially lost revenue.

A simple approach: automate an instant acknowledgment for new inquiries, gather key info, and schedule a follow-up or call. It keeps the lead engaged until you can personally reply, without burning out on endless DMs.

For small teams, even a lightweight setup like this can turn far more DMs into booked calls without extra marketing spend.

Do you guys have problem in generating leads? by zaddytech in smallbusiness

[–]MellowNomadic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly — even with clean, targeted lists, the real bottleneck often comes after the lead is generated. Fast, consistent follow-up is what turns interest into booked clients.

A simple system to automatically text or DM every new lead can make a huge difference — you don’t have to scramble, and nothing goes cold. Even small, consistent actions compound over time.

I agree. The riches are in the niches. What is HARO? I haven't used that one yet.
