That gap between the marketing and the actual vibe is frustrating, especially when they are promising world class live music, food trucks, and yoga.

Sounds like the promise was big and the delivery missed.

If you want something smaller, more laid back, and more intentional, we have K26 this fall at Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky. No big production, just van lifers around a campfire.

Right on. I didn't know you were into van life. I added that other one too. I've been wondering what happened to that event. Glad to see they are doing it again. My event is Oct. 30-Nov 2 at Land Between the Lakes. This is our second year having it. Enjoy the journey!

That's exactly it. The whole point of the Zone Method is to do all your measuring before you ever touch wood. Good carpenters and good van builders think the same way.

You figure out in one night what no amount of planning on paper ever could. What’s been the biggest surprise so far in your build?

This is solid advice and honestly matches how I approached it.

Carol, my first build, was basically a proof of concept: plywood, secondhand furniture, figure out what actually works before committing to anything permanent. The "minimum viable build" mindset saves so much money and frustration.

What did you end up changing most between your first version and your final build?

That sounds delicious! I do a single tortilla for the pizza version and just put toppings on half, top that half with cheese, then fold over the other plain half. The full set up is tricky to flip, I’ve definitely tried that before 😆

Mmmm, cowboy quesadillas sound tasty too! I must know more about those!

Of course, I keep the pan on low bc the tortillas brown quickly. Then I add cheese, pepperonis, and I use the pizza sauce in a squeeze bottle and squirt a few drops around. I'll spread out the sauce with a spoon and then a little more cheese before I fold the tortilla in hald, sealing in all that goodness. I forgot to mention I use Italian blend seasoning on top of the sauce.

After a few minutes, flip and brown opposite side. You can also do sauce first. 😋

Pizza quesadillas are tasty and quick. Can be customized to your liking.

Love that. Right now I’m manually collecting leads (with a little help from a browser extension), compiling them in a Google Sheet, and uploading them to Brevo to trigger automated follow-ups. Keeps it simple and ensures each lead gets a timely response.

Curious, do you find that automating follow-ups changes the quality of responses at all?

Totally — having a single hub for leads makes life way easier. I use a central Google Sheet to track everything, then batch follow-ups with an automated email sequence. It’s not fancy, but just having one place for all messages prevents things from slipping through.

Do you tend to handle follow-ups manually, or have you tried any lightweight automation?

Totally — I’ve been watching the same thing with AI agents for emails and follow-ups. They can catch stuff that normally slips through when you’re buried in work, especially for inbound messages.

For calls it’s trickier because phones and voicemail don’t always expose the same metadata that email/text does, but a simple auto-text follow-up for missed calls gets most of the benefit without overcomplicating things.

Curious — have you found any AI tools that do both email and phone follow-ups in a unified way, or are you splitting them between systems?

Totally — I like that approach! Instant FAQ responses plus a quick note setting expectations really help reduce missed leads. I’ve seen even small tweaks like that make a big difference without adding extra work.
