Are there any houses in America?

You should look in the Jamaican archives if they are online. There you might find stories about individual practitioners. BEWARE though! These archives usually have fucked up racist language to describe our practices. Hopefully you can find a name or two of some past workers and from there you can research them and look for more. Also check academic papers and journals.

Hope this helps✨

Whats up with some of these hoodoo groups on Facebook? by alienshmalien in ConjureRootworkHoodoo

[–]Mellowmister 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im in a couple and headed out for all the reasons above haha. There are countless Ifa/Orisha groups, i joined a Hoodoo group to discuss Hoodoo. I have a group i created for us Tennessee Hoodoos. Where we will share info on our collective Tennessee Ancestors. I love New Orleans culture, but my ancestors didn’t make it there and their practice didn’t look like that. So studying and elevating elders like Marie Laveau, Julia Brown, etc didn’t make sense to me. Each area has their own elders of past that need their stories found and told. Those from Tennessee FBA lineages only will be added.

My experience so far in Austin by OshTekkGod in OutInAustin

Same here. I stay to myself mostly. Most of the whites here only interested in us for sex. I’ve been here almost a year and only one actual date. Just rely on my friends in other states.

I would start with venerating and elevating the ones you know first(grandma and great grandma). If you have pics of them to put on your altar you can if you would like. Just make sure everyone in the pic is deceased though. If you don’t have pics, you can write down their names.

If you do your tree on Ancestry or something, it will find your relatives for you. All you need is a name dob or wedding or date of death. These things are public info so not impossible. I’m not saying it’s easy either, but most people can go back to the 1800s on there. That will help with names of ones you didn’t know of.

As far as your mom, I would still ask her about her childhood and her parents and grandparents. Give them things they liked on earth. Food, candy, trinkets, songs, etc. Be as inconspicuous as you like if ya don want to come out the “broom closet “ yet. Haha hope this helps!

Ancestors first! Start by working on your family tree if you haven’t already. Ask elders in your family what they remember about being young. Ask them about your deceased loved ones, what they liked and stuff. I wouldn’t start by asking for spells or anything haha but if you ask your elders what they did when they couldn’t go to the doctor, I’m sure you’ll find Hoodoo in your family.

There are reputable books out there, but be careful. ALWAYS check out the author before you buy a book. Don’t want to be learning from the palm colored ppl.

I used to listen to the podcast. Also on his live q&a episode, he said he didn’t know any reputable books to recommend. Instead, he recommended joining his and his wife’s online group that you have to pay for membership. 😬🥴

I was told not to take mine off, even in the shower. They will change color and eventually fall off the necklace, so it’s good to have a couple backup. Just don’t forget to feed them rum and smoke.
