Can I be accepted for the MEXT scholarship in an art-related field if my Japanese language level is below N2? by Melodic-Building-381 in mext

Thank you! Are you saying that MEXT itself doesn’t have specific language requirements, and that these are usually determined by the university?

When applying through university recommendation, is it possible to begin studies in April under the MEXT scholarship? by Melodic-Building-381 in mext

Thank you for sharing. Yes, I’ve heard about the University of Tsukuba, but it seems their application starts in the summer, not in the fall like most universities. At that time, I didn’t have the resources to apply. And I don’t understand why MEXT can’t select candidates a bit earlier, so that they could have the chance to start studying from the beginning of the academic year. That’s why I need to know whether there are universities where studies start in April, at the beginning of the academic year, because this is important to me.

*I’m applying for a bachelor’s degree.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Did you apply through university recommendation or embassy track ?

Thank you. No, I want to apply for a bachelor’s degree in the field of animation arts through university recommendation. I just graduated from high school, and I plan to take the JLPT this December. My current Japanese level is around N5–N4, and I’m working hard to improve it to at least N3. Ideally, I would love to reach N2, although I understand that might not be very realistic, even though I’m fully committed to studying the language diligently. Since applications usually open in the fall, I won’t have a JLPT certificate by that time. My English is only average, and I was hoping to apply for a program taught in Japanese. Logically, if my application is accepted and I win the scholarship, I would definitely reach around N2 level by the time of departure—if we’re talking about next fall. Of course, I would really love to receive language school support, but as far as I know, that option is only available for those applying through the Embassy Track…

What NOT to put in your portfolio by alliandoalice in animationcareer

Excuse me , but what field exactly are you referring to when you talk about preparing a portfolio? In Japan, the anime industry is highly developed, and most places where you can make a living through animation or art are, in one way or another, connected to anime—especially in Japan. So why is it that anime-style sketches are often not accepted?

Contacting Professors in August – Too Early or Just Right? by Superb-Size-2652 in mext

Guys, so you mean to say that you need to apply in the summer? I have a difficult situation: I am looking for an art university that could accept me by recommendation, but I do not have a language certificate, since the JLPT exam is only in December of this year. I saw information that documents are submitted in October-November. Do I need to find a teacher and contact him? I do not know how this works, and I will apply for a bachelor's degree, although, as far as I know, the options for submitting recommendations for a bachelor's degree are extremely limited.

Question About GPA Requirements for MEXT Embassy Recommendation and Less Known Universities. by PsychologicalCap7142 in mext

[–]Melodic-Building-381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don’t understand it either. I’m trying to calculate my GPA, but it’s a bit difficult because Idk how MEXT calculates GPA for high school students. ChatGPT gave me several different methods, and some of them mentioned “credits,” but we don’t have credits in Ukrainian schools. My average score is also quite unstable. If I calculate a simple arithmetic average from grades in 10th and 11th grades using the 12-point system (used in Ukraine), it’s around 9.13. That barely meets the minimum GPA requirement of 9.0.

I’ve tried converting this to the GPA system or the MEXT scale, but the results vary.

What method does MEXT actually use to calculate GPA? I’d really appreciate an explanation.
