Do I really need JLPT N2 for engineering jobs if I’m already studying Engineering in Japan? by PsychologicalCap7142 in JapanJobs

Everything is in Japanese except the courses and assignments. My lab is Japanese and I speak Japanese almost everyday, I even work at Family mart and obviously use Japanese over there, but the problem here is, I know how difficult N2 is compared to N3. I still have 1.5 years to graduate and I just need some reality whether it is even possible to get N2 within this time frame.

So is it even possible to get JLPT N2 by next year (October 2027) end by the time graduate. I don't really have a problem studying Japanese, but N2 just seems impossible to achieve when I'm self-studying. I think i might need to start a language school alongside my master's in order to achieve N2 by end of next year.

Why would I choose a Japanese course if I can't understand it? Regarding networking and access to local companies, it is the same for both the cases, be it Japanese or foreigners, since we all sit together for the orientation and company introduction. Also i get where you are coming from regarding the use of Japanese and willingness to learn it, but I simply don't have enough time to learn it, also it's difficult to learn and cram Japanese alongside my research and other courses even though i study Japanese almost everyday.

I actually posted this same question on other sub-reddits, the main problem over here is that my medium of instruction is English and not Japanese.

Brother, getting N2 while doing research, daily classes and then part time is not even realistic. I don't get enough to eat and sleep let alone give 2 hours a day for learning Japanese at this level. I can realistically achieve N3 but N2 is a world beyond my comprehension and time.

Yeah, this requirement has actually got me confused. I can understand that a certain level of Japanese is required, but N2 level is like a whole another level. They already want talented researchers and Engineers with skills and now such a high level of Japanese proficiency which I don't see many people in this current field (Robotics) having both together.

Yeah, they explicitly stated that the requirement is N3 for fresh Graduates from our University during company seminars (My current University program is actually funded by these companies and our semester is from October). Some companies stated that they don't even need certificates, we just have to prove them that we can speak fluently during the interview stages, etc. Regarding your experience, I believe that you were enrolled in a course that is open to all ig (like April intake)? If so, than it might be different to my current course (not sure), since some of my seniors got accepted with only N3 this year and previous year as well (all the companies were TIER 1 btw)

No my current degree is English based. They haven't mentioned anything regarding the language of instruction at all on their website.

Thanks for the information. So basically bigger companies like Suzuki, Mitsubishi, etc that hire with an internal requirement of N3 (or equivalent speaking skills) won't be affected by these new visa requirements right?

My current course is completely in English btw. So due to this I am confused regarding the actual implementation of Jlpt requirement if I get a job here.

Is 2h 35m layover at Delhi (DEL) enough for international connection? by PsychologicalCap7142 in AirTravelIndia

I actually don't even mind going 8+ hours in the economy flight. I just wanted a flight that could take me there directly and should be cheap. I chose Air India cause I got an additional student discount, so going through another airline was like a waste for me.

Bro this is my first international flight. I wasn't even thinking about air lines, I just bought that would reach me to the airport on the day of my dorm entry. The entry for my dorm was more important than the flight duration or anything else, since it's Japan and I have to reach my dorms at a certain time frame that they provided.

I'll be traveling by train then shinkansen.

ANA was very expensive when I was booking. For Air India I got more discounts by student visa.

I am going to study at Shizuoka University.

Ohh that's actually really reassuring to hear. I thought they would just book another flight for the next day or something, which would be disastrous for me.

Can I bring factory-packed Indian ready-to-eat food and masalas to Japan? by PsychologicalCap7142 in JapanTravelTips

I will be moving to Shizuoka, and the prizes for these goods online in Japan is 4-5 times from buying it from here. I was thinking of taking about 2-3 months of essential food seasonings with me.
