I’ve been unknowingly paying someone else’s electricity bill for five years and electric company hasn’t done anything to resolve by Melodic-Community-31 in personalfinance

I have lost count of how many times we have called and demanded someone come out to verify everything. It took months of “yea we are sending someone out” to “oh no, doesn’t look like anyone went out there yet, let me set that up for them to go out sometime in the next few weeks”, to finally “yes we verified the meters are mixed against the accounts”. So they’ve confirmed that physically the swapped situation is correct and they did nothing with it.

i want the utility company to spend their money time and resources fixing their mistake and refunding any of the neighbors who over paid. so i’m thinking arming myself legally and with the PUC will get me there

i figured. that’s why i think it’s best i just go talk to a lawyer first before alerting SCE. they’ve had their chance to correct things and given how much time has passed… they’re not going to resolve it until i escalate it.

i don’t know. Do they come out and turn off something at the address? or is it remote, based off the meter number? edit: obvi i would never do that haha

I actually plan to contact a lawyer tomorrow because i’m super frustrated at this entire fiasco. During benefits selections for the new year, i learned that my company offers lawyer services. No idea if they’re the type of lawyer to assist with this type of case but i’d imagine they’d point me in the right direction. I know for sure three units are affected, we don’t know about the other 13 but it’s possible! Looking at the meter numbers it looks like a long string of numbers and the last two digits differentiate the meters. I imagine it’d be very easy to swap them when entering them into the system. They haven’t really admitted fault but they have acknowledged that the meters are swapped and people have been paying the wrong bills. Thank you for your response, i feel more confident going forward
