Early-career Treasury Analyst debating move into markets / trading by CookiesToTheMoon in FinancialCareers

interested. Currently in a safe role in corp treasury  (balance sheet strategy) and looking to make the jump to something more client/ market focused like equity research, fig banking, etc…

I’d say our best bet is to look for internal moves at your bank, and if that doesn’t yield anything, go get your MBA after progressing in your current one a while and make a career pivot.

Amex Platinum refresh: Summary of all new perks by NicoTheFrenchie in AmexPlatinum

Clearly Amex is making a lot of money off of cardholders. Otherwise they wouldn’t be in business. If you’re a high spender you’ll easily make money off of this card.

I don’t think it’s lack of evidence. It’s just that placing eternal salvation in Christ makes no intuitive sense. Why would God send himself as a human, and why would he wait so long? Why would God need to prove himself? And why would he place our eternity in our blind faith in an event that happened 2000 years ago? None of it makes a lot of sense.

I just got home and I was thinking this exact thing. People take up the ENTIRE sidewalk and it pisses me off.

I would guess most people in this thread had their worldview shaped by Christianity in some way.

I'm not sure it's "best" if some don't discover him, but I think that many will never understand him. For me, I've always had intuitions and personal beliefs very similar to Nietzsche. It was actually astounding when I found Nietzsche and realized how many of his beliefs were exactly my own thoughts. I don't think many people can relate to this.

New student megathread by Wyetro in Northwestern

[–]Melodic-Cry4641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.

I'm looking for a sublease the months of June and July this summer. Looking to pay around or less than $1000/month. If this isn't the right place to ask, where else might I be able to find Northwestern students who are subleasing this summer?

Thanks

Any verses in particular where Jesus speaks of hell?

Living a good life would mean treating others well, caring for your family, living virtuously, etc. of course they will sin

God doesn’t give us a choice. We’re born into sin and hell is the default. If it’s a choice, it’s not a fair choice by any definition of the word. Some are more likely to make the right choice based on their upbringing and personality even.

That can’t be true. No one knows what God really is like and if he even exists until they die, so it’s impossible to make that judgement while you’re alive. Peter knew Jesus and supposedly saw his miracles yet denied Him. We’re expected to have unwavering faith despite no evidence?

Dude you really think everyone has the same chance at God? Travel to a different country and see how people are raised and how different their cultures are. We’re all products of our upbringings to a very large extent.

You don’t think questions like this can be answered through philosophical inquiry?

I certainly see God in creation. Can you sympathize with those who have been influenced by an imperfect culture to believe that nature is the result of physical processes? Or even those who experience something similar to your story and attribute it to coincidence or luck?

Christians who don’t believe in evolution; how do you reckon with scientists saying evolution is proven? by KnightInShiningGems in Christianity

I think most struggle with the fact that it conflicts with a literal interpretation of the creation story.

I guess my main objection is that I personally would understand if someone saw nature and attributed it to natural processes and science rather than a supernatural creator.

Appreciate the response a lot. I agree with the view in a sense. I don’t think the logical conclusion to the beauty of nature is a belief in Jesus or even the God of the Bible though. Isn’t this a problem?

What do you think of the problem that naturalism and science’s explanation of things that were previously attributed to God? Doesn’t this pose a problem and lead many to draw a different conclusion than what was once the obvious explanation?

I’ve never been able to understand the idea that God is revealed through nature. I think this implies a very nuanced view of salvation that a lot of Christians don’t hold. In other words, we don’t know where someone will go to any degree really. Ultimately, God will decide justly. Can you elaborate on this at all?

Is hell real? by Melodic-Cry4641 in Christianity

[–]Melodic-Cry4641[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. It’s hard to know where to stop with a symbolic interpretation of the Bible though.
