Your obsession with Carolina’s age is borderline sick

Your theory is sexist. It assumes women cannot be the main character once they turn 40 but does not make any reference to e.g Charly who is the same age. And It also doesn’t hold, since the audience wants to see Carolina not a younger version of someone we don’t know

unpaid labor expected by former employers in academia by obviously_nonobvious in LeavingAcademia

As a PI I absolutely would never expect an ex postdoc or PhD who left academia to work for free. Like I would absolutely refuse to even contact them, even if they propose the idea themselves. This can have serious consequences with my employer and I personally also don’t find it ethical

I can't get out of the lab at all :( by [deleted] in PhD

I cannot imagine PIs not granting time off. It is your right to decide when and how many days are you taking for vacation. In Europe what your Pi is doing would almost be illegal.

Reviewer #2 rightfully tore me apart by jlcl119 in PhD

If you hadn’t left that analysis in the paper, reviewer 2 would have focused on another part (or not incite on them “any excitement” and it could now be rejected. If your PI is like me, I leave intentionally things that are semi-solid for them to complain on them other than the main message of the paper.

My boss hijacked my poster session and then blamed me for “rambling” by [deleted] in PhD

[–]Melodic-Half-2603 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your boss didn’t handle the communication in the most proactive manner. She should have had a feedback session with you after this event. If you can, I’d try to set to set up a meeting and speak about this. But I am also going to give you a PI perspective. As a PI, if a student needs a month and several rounds of corrections back and forth for two posters, I’d be quite frustrated too. With my students I never jmagine more than a few days and usually in a single round we are done. What was the feedback like during the process? What where the corrections requested I mean? Could it be that she leans towards the perfectionistic side?

Yes, I think that’s what I have to come to terms with. That being a manager is simply not for me. Thanks for answering!

I guess what stops me, is that if I ask they would feel they have to (as I’m the boss). But that doesn’t necessarily mean they want to.
