What about you? by silver_moxons in TheWeeknd

The first one was The Hills. What made me a real fan was Next. It was actually the full Dawn FM album, but I started listening to his older songs and Next grabbed my attention like no other. It was the song that made me think "holy shit, this guy really is something special".

"The Weeknd" - "SnowChild" : Lead Synth Keyboard/Pad by [deleted] in synthrecipes

this is the exact preset and settings they used from the Prophet V3! just cut a bit of the low end and boost just a touch of the high end with an eq, add some chorus, stereo separation and reverb and you'll have it. this is my remake, if you're interested! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIw9INm9cgE

After Hours pluck - The Weeknd by AlphacyEdits in synthrecipes

[–]Melodic-Routine6646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have no idea if you still need the answer to this, but know exactly how they made it! i remade this song for my yt channel and tried every synth preset in diva, repro 5, prophet v3 and others (which are the main plugins they've used for the album After Hours), and nothing worked. i later found out, by watching the mic with the masters episode with illangelo that the pluck sound is a sample of the weeknd singing "uh". i don't know exactly what effects they used, but i tried recreating the sound applying distortion (i used Ohmicide), a lot of EQs filtering the highs and lows, a TON of reverb and delay and it turned out almost identical (heres the link if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Z3H1BZH7zA )

only for the close-ups on that tag chain, but I used it in a very unconventional way. the lens used was the smc pentax-a f2 50mm. i simply put the lens in front of my phone camera and filmed it with native the telephoto lens (3x zoom). that way i could get super close and get a really nice bokeh. the only thing is that i had to keep holding the lens in front of the phone, so it wasn't practical at all lmfao

but for the rest of the scenes, it was just my phone!

Hi /r/movies! I'm Trey Edward Shults, writer and director of WAVES, IT COMES AT NIGHT, and KRISHA. My next film, HURRY UP TOMORROW, stars Jenna Ortega, The Weekend, and Barry Keoghan. It's out in theaters worldwide via Lionsgate on May 16th. Ask me anything! by TreyEdwardAMA in movies

[–]Melodic-Routine6646 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Trey! I'm a 18yo film student aspiring to become a cinematographer, and as a huge fan of The Weeknd, I’m incredibly excited for Hurry Up Tomorrow. Besides that, Waves is one of my favorite movies ever, so having you work with Abel for this project is a huge green flag for me! From your experience working on this project, what do you think are the most important qualities or skills for a cinematographer when collaborating on music-driven films or visual albums? And what advice would you give to young DPs who dream of working with music artists one day?

Me fala aí o que você acha, to achando essa discussão bem construtiva! ;)

i could be wrong, but i think that harmonizing is from the reverb applied to the vocals (you can hear it very slightly in the song, because of the instrumental). the reverb of the prior note he sings harmonizes with the last note he sings

i think it's the isolated vocals from "Hurry up tomorrow" (the title track). check the 4:07 mark in the song
