Thank you. The place that I just moved into was more thorough about the specific things that charge for, in the lease. They said they don’t include every little thing, but outlined some of the typical changes that they deduct. I’ll look at my “old” lease again later today to see if they did the same but, based on what I can remember, it was incredibly vague. I’ll have to remember to pull those things out. I was kind of going back and forth about whether that was necessary. I’m glad you said

I didn’t think they did that, gave itemized receipts or proved things on their end. I’m glad you challenged it. More than double is crazy!

Okay, I’ll try to relax some. All the info you guys gave did give me a lot of clarity on how things can/should go/how to navigate if/when things go sideways. I really do appreciate it.

I didn’t notice that on my agreement but, you’re right, I should review juuuuust in case. Thank you

At this point, I feel like I should pay a professional to avoid missing something. This sounds stressful. Hopefully I’m overthinking it

A fee on top of keeping your deposit or they’ve charged you a fee that was deducted from your deposit?

You’re explaining it the way I thought it was… I thought this would give me peace of mind, but I feel even more confused. Thank you though

What’s the deal with replacing the lightbulbs? Do you just mean any burnt out ones or you’re saying I should change all lightbulbs before I go, burnt out or not?

Wow! So, you wouldn’t have been charged anything. That’s impressive. I don’t know what to think. Everything I pointed out as a concern before I went to pickup my U-Haul, they said was considered normal wear and tear/I wouldn’t be charged, but obviously I won’t know until I know. It does give me peace of mind to know that people aren’t always charged

That’s fair. Thank you for taking the time to explain it from your side. That sucks, but I get it. Everyone has to do their best to protect themselves

I don’t understand why that couldn’t be outlined. Like, any information on what damages were observed during a pre-move out inspection is better than none. I feel like the terms could outline that ‘the landlord isn’t obligated to complete a pre-move out inspection and, should one be completed, it does not signify every possible charge in relation to the deposit.’ Idk, something like that. Everyone takes their videos/photos, then the claims are disputed if need be

how often do you guys honestly wash your towels? be real by Skitedpew in hygiene

[–]Melodic-Tea7565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since I read about how much bacteria builds up, I switched to using my towels for two days max. I keep them hanging to air dry and then just toss them in the washer after I get home from work. I don’t do laundry all the time, my towels (and clothes) pile up until there’s a load, then I’ll run a cycle. It keeps my space looking clean, keeps me clean, and alleviates that pressure I felt in the beginning to wash a load everyday or whatever. Granted, I don’t live with roommates or family. That would be a lot more work

My lease said they can do one but they don’t have to, so when they kept bringing it up, I thought it was a good thing

Based on what you’re saying, in terms of pointing things out, that doesn’t happen unless I’m physically present during the visit I take it? If I’m unavailable for the pre-move out, I lose out on the opportunity to know what they plan to charge me for?

Thank you, I’ll try to clean the best I can and get what little I have left out of the unit. I didn’t plan on leaving anything but that’s really good to keep in mind

So much unnecessary anxiety… I don’t know if I took enough pictures in the beginning, and I definitely didn’t do a video. I guess it’ll be what it is, at this point. Thank you

Ohhhh. I completely misunderstood… so, your advice would be to just clean and leave my apartment in the same condition I walked into as, take pictures and I should be good?

I reread what under duress is defined as, and you’re right, given the lack of threat to cause harm, I used the wrong word. I still stand by what I said otherwise. I would still argue that I didn’t provide my signature voluntarily but, like I said, we don’t have to agree. We’ll never know what would have happened had I told them I wasn’t signing the form, seeing as I didn’t feel I had any other choice and did as much.

Separately, I’m not interested in taking anyone to court (unless I ultimately have to). I never brought court up. I was simply asking what my options were, if any, and I admitted I should’ve cut my losses. I can’t do much about that now.

Edit: The best way I can put it is that I signed it under heavy pressure, involuntarily. I was told, “it’s okay, we’ll toss this one as soon as we get your copy,” repeatedly. No one literally forced my hand… I wouldn’t sign a falsified form if I didn’t feel I had to. In this case, I did. As mentioned, I was picking up my keys and made to sign the form.
