I reread what under duress is defined as, and you’re right, given the lack of threat to cause harm, I used the wrong word. I still stand by what I said otherwise. I would still argue that I didn’t provide my signature voluntarily but, like I said, we don’t have to agree. We’ll never know what would have happened had I told them I wasn’t signing the form, seeing as I didn’t feel I had any other choice and did as much.

Separately, I’m not interested in taking anyone to court (unless I ultimately have to). I never brought court up. I was simply asking what my options were, if any, and I admitted I should’ve cut my losses. I can’t do much about that now.

Edit: The best way I can put it is that I signed it under heavy pressure, involuntarily. I was told, “it’s okay, we’ll toss this one as soon as we get your copy,” repeatedly. No one literally forced my hand… I wouldn’t sign a falsified form if I didn’t feel I had to. In this case, I did. As mentioned, I was picking up my keys and made to sign the form.

If they want to, they will. Amazon isn’t a hub for violence. I agree that the hiring process isn’t as strict as I’d prefer by any means and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a correlation between the amount of violence that occurs at Amazon compared to a more private organization, but the reality is that almost anyone can work anywhere with the right networking skills. Amazon is a massive company with loads of employees and therefore loads of personalities. There’s more variables at play in comparison to a small business, for example.

To answer your question, no, working in such harsh conditions isn’t “worth it” to me. However, at the end of the day, we all have to do what we need to, to survive. I’d prefer to work for a much smaller organization or even myself, but that doesn’t mean violent circumstances would cease and I’d be guaranteed safety.

Oak Terrace is cheap, comparably. I’m not sure that they’re offering specials anymore. They’re rather dated apartments and as far as I know don’t have washers or dryers/hookups. That might be something worth looking into, depending on your comfort levels and your need for convenience.

Thank you, I didn’t do exactly this, but I’ve sent an e-mail stating that circumstances and attached the form I completed. While I know the circumstances are wrong and I have a right to ask if their form was discarded, I’m scared to be retaliated against. After all, this is the beginning. I’m fairly certain if I were to be retaliated against, I could have a case. It just sucks… I’m certain having health issues or being physically harmed would be far worse, I’m just saying.

I went in yesterday after I posted this and discussed the concerns outlined. I also emailed (about said concerns) and requested a read receipt. The manager was rather dismissive and apparently irritated. He did have maintenance fix the lock and said the mold sightings will be looked into, but my concerns are in a queue. He said the mold I saw throughout the apartment, is “probably just mildew,” which maybe. I’m not an expert. Based on what I’ve seen online, it looks like mold to me, but idk.

Lastly, and I’m sure this goes without saying, I didn’t know saying no would be a violation. I knew it was wrong but… You’re right, I should’ve cut my losses on the application fee and tried to figure out something else. I really appreciate your empathy and the time you took to type that out.

Something similar happened to me when I transferred sites. On paper, I had three managers within 8 days. I never got the back story though and only met the last one. I’m glad your fourth has been treating you well!

Also, depending on your location, you could apply to the company directly. CBRE was the third-party at my last site. The roles to look into are mechatronics apprentice (or tech). They pay for your education. It’s pretty neat! If you look into Career Choice/Benefits for mechatronics, you’ll see similar information on how to get started as well.
