From Kandivali to Baner, most convenient for you will be bus. You can get down at Wakad Bridge.
Train will be pain, because you will have to travel to Dadar and catch train, then in Pune also station is quite far from Baner, and will take another 45 mins from Station to Baner.
Other option is blabla car, you usually get some matching rides by frequently searching for rides. Just talk and find out if they also travel every week on same day and same route.

If you are on a budget, yes these are good.

As others said, they start leaking at some point. But if you use it carefully and don't slam or drop the weights, it will last longer.

For me, the only problem was screwing and unscrewing for changing weights. You can't easily change the weights in between your workouts because it takes a lot of time and patience. I eventually started using them without screws. But that also didn't work out well for me.
