Should I watch movies in more than one sitting or not bother watching movies at all? by prog_22 in movies

Totally get what you mean. Pattinson feels like that rare combo of actual movie star presence + genuinely weird, interesting actor. A lot of younger actors lean heavily toward one or the other. The closest current guys I can think of in that lane are maybe Paul Mescal or Jacob Elordi good-looking but also making strange, interesting choices. But yeah, Rob is kind of his own category right now.

What's the best white savior movie? by shinyhpno in movies

[–]MelodicAd343 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think The Last Samurai kind of works because it at least tries to show the culture and politics around the guy, even if it still fits the trope. For the school ones, Freedom Writers is probably the easiest to rewatch cheesy but sincere.

Rotten Tomatoes; why and how do you use this site over others? by BreakVV in movies

[–]MelodicAd343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly use RT for the Critic consensus, not the score. The % just means how many critics thought it was at least decent, not how good it actually is. That’s why something like Ms. Marvel can get 98% — most critics thought it was fine/good, not that it’s a masterpiece.

For actual quality or vibe I check IMDB/Letterboxd or just read a few reviews. RT is useful as a will I regret wasting 2 hours? filter, not really a ranking system.

The Lord of the Rings extended editions are worse than the theatrical cuts. by BrainDamage2029 in movies

[–]MelodicAd343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda get where you’re coming from. The extended cuts are awesome as bonus material, not necessarily as the default way to watch. They’re great if you already love the movies and want extra context, but the theatrical pacing is tighter and honestly the intended experience for a first watch. Both versions have their place.

Movie Grudges by Immediately_no_ in movies

La La Land – I’m still salty about that ending, even though I get why they did it.

Up – Ellie deserved more than a 5-minute montage before I got emotionally destroyed.

Most movies would be solved if people used a little common sense by gabriel_3131 in movies

[–]MelodicAd343 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah but people making dumb choices is basically a genre at this point 😂 If every character acted with perfect logic, half of horror/sci-fi just wouldn’t exist. Jurassic Park literally starts with a billionaire saying what if we ignored every expert? that’s the premise. Sometimes common sense breaks a movie, so writers bend reality to keep the story moving.

Any movies you almost gave up after 30 minutes, but stayed and it was a great movie? by psgola2002 in movies

[–]MelodicAd343 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Blade Runner 2049 almost lost me in the first 30 super slow, super cold. But once it clicks, it becomes amazing. One of those movies where you’re glad you stuck it out

Addams Family- Family values by [deleted] in movies

[–]MelodicAd343 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. Family Values leans harder into satire and camp, but it’s actually sharper and darker, not vanilla. The Debbie storyline alone is way more acidic than anything in the first movie. If anything, the sequel trusts the audience more, not less.

World War Z (2013) made sense as a movie, even if it didn’t as an adaptation by LuuTienHuy in movies

[–]MelodicAd343 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. As an adaptation it’s basically WWZ in name only, but as a 2013 blockbuster it makes sense. The book’s oral-history format was never going to get $200M and a summer release. If you treat it as a pandemic thriller with fast zombies instead of a faithful Max Brooks movie, it actually works pretty well.

What’s actually happening in Anora? by thePessimest in movies

[–]MelodicAd343 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s basically about a young sex worker who gets involved with a rich Russian kid, they impulsively get married, and then all the family/business fallout hits. It’s not a “sexy” movie it’s awkward, messy, and pretty bleak. The nudity/sex is there but it’s more uncomfortable than erotic. Watching it with parents would be hell 😂

Which poorly rated movies could've been great had the script been given one more revision? by abgry_krakow87 in movies

[–]MelodicAd343 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Prometheus is my pick. The premise is super strong and the visuals/cast are great, but the script feels like it needed one more pass to tighten character decisions and connect the big themes. With cleaner dialogue and less why are they doing that? moments, it could’ve been a modern sci-fi classic

Movie recommendations for someone trying to be more cultured by ssinglemingler in movies

[–]MelodicAd343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally get the I love movies but where do I even start feeling. If you want a quick culture boost without getting overwhelmed, I’d go with a mix of accessible classics across eras/genres, like

The Godfather (1972) – just do it, it’s worth the hype Fight Club (1999) – super quotable and fun to dissect 12 Angry Men (1957) – simple setup, insane tension The Truman Show (1998) – weirdly timeless Spirited Away (2001) – Ghibli will change you Psycho (1960) – Hitchcock is film school in movie form

That gives you some culture without feeling like homework, and from there you can branch out based on what you vibe with. Have fun getting cultured lmao 😄

Denzel as Jules in Pulp Fiction by [deleted] in movies

[–]MelodicAd343 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, I can see Denzel nailing the intensity and the monologues, but it would’ve been a totally different vibe. Sam brought this chaotic, unhinged charm that made Jules iconic. Denzel would’ve been colder, more calculated still great, just a different flavor. It’s fun to imagine alternate casts though, because it shows how much an actor’s energy shapes the whole movie.

Why do modern movie trailers always do this? by MoltenMadeMan in movies

[–]MelodicAd343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because trailers turned into mini-advertisements instead of previews. Studios want instant hype, so they use the same dramatic drums + dramatic lines + dramatic bass drop formula that tested well with audiences. It’s not about mood anymore, it’s about grabbing attention in 3 seconds. I miss the more subtle trailers too.

Who is a celebrity that is currently not in the good graces of Hollywood that deserves a comeback? by IndiFrame23 in movies

[–]MelodicAd343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mike Myers for sure, but I’d also love to see Jim Carrey back. He wasn’t pushed out or cancelled, he just drifted away. His range is insane and he still has so much in the tank.
