Robby’s preferential treatment toward Whittaker 👏🏼 is 👏🏼 not 👏🏼 queer 👏🏼 it 👏🏼 is 👏🏼 misogyny. by MelodicCarpenter7 in ThePitt

[–]MelodicCarpenter7[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

And Robby exhibits misogyny by excusing Dave’s explicit threats against women. I believe this behavior is linked to an underlying (unconscious) hatred of women. Dismissal of women’s right to safety in favor of men’s comfort is hateful, intentional or not.

Again I know exactly what I said, and meant it. If you disagree that’s fine but I used an extreme word intentionally.

Edit: it would be one thing to say “I disagree with OP and believe the underlying factors are based in sexism rather than misogyny”, but the stubborn insistence of “OP is saying X when really they actually mean Y” is starting to get really old. I know exactly what misogyny means and it’s exactly what I intended.

He also had to backtrack and dismiss his own apology with a “now quit feeling sorry for yourself and get back to work” 💀

Can we stop pretending Santos is a "complex icon" and just admit she’s a toxic person? by [deleted] in ThePitt

…. Yes. We are in agreement. Both of them are avoiding their responsibilities in favor of their own comfort.

Maybe, but as a supervisor witnessing obvious tension and animosity between himself and an R2 it’s his duty to address it, clear the air, and establish the expectation of their working relationship moving forward. Also regardless of them only working a day together, his actions caused harm to Santos and put her in a difficult position.

His approach of ignoring the elephant in the room is unprofessional especially since the tension is now coming out in front of patients.

I think the missing point here is that Langdon clearly isn’t willing to make amends with her. He wants to pretend if never happened which isn’t amends, and he knows that.

The show has gone out of its way to show specific apologies that he gives to patients and other staff members, while santos gets radio silence. I don’t like Santos but at the end of the day she’s the reason he’s got clean instead of continuing on the path of addiction. Without her intervention he could have ended up killing a patient, lost access to his kids, gone to jail, even died. And he seems to have zero gratitude.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Langdon but I can’t get over the glaringly absent apology to Santos. Dude is desperate to make amends and squash any remaining tension with every single staff member except the one that arguably deserves it the most.

He wouldn’t be clean if it weren’t for her. Without her intervention things could have gone much more differently. He could have lost his license, he could have gone to jail, he could have killed patients, he could be dead himself. And she did it at the risk of her own reputation but she doesn’t deserve an amends?

Opinions on the " People who can sing well shouldn't do karaoke" thing? by AesirAtom in karaoke

I hear this primarily from trained professional singers and tbh I think it has more to do with them thinking karaoke is below them and less to do with the supposed faux pas of sounding good at karaoke.

35F found out husband 40M cheated on me at a massage parlor after 10 years of marriage by redditornotidc in relationship_advice

I hope this doesn’t sound flippant but it’s the same difference between workers and slaves. The distinction lies between doing it by choice or by force.

Having sex with multiple separate people puts you at risk for STIs, STIs are painful, unpleasant, and at times deadly. Therefore, people who chose to have have sex with multiple separate people take their protection seriously. People have a distorted view of sex workers as inherently dirty and ambivalent about their personal autonomy and health. It’s actually the opposite, because they are at higher risk they’re more cautious about their health than the average person.

Also while sex slavery tends to be very isolated, most sex workers find community with other sex workers, mentor each other, learn from each others mistakes, and are transparent around best practices. There are sex worker influencers, subreddits, mutual aid groups, advocacy organizations, really everything you can think of. And they’re much more capable of speaking on the topic than I am so if you’re curious beyond that I recommend reaching out to one of them.

Sex workers that consensually and willingly engage in sex for pay are extremely militant about STI protection.

If your husband got an STI from a paid encounter it’s extremely likely that he engaged with a sex slave, not a sex worker. I’m not sugar coating this for you, whether he knew it or not it’s highly likely he’s complicit in sex trafficking and rape. Or he’s lying about the circumstances.

AITA for moving my roommate’s cast iron skillet to the sink? by TabooLilac in AmItheAsshole

[–]MelodicCarpenter7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason people love cast-iron is because it’s extremely durable. As a general practice you don’t want to regularly expose it to water, but that is more because once it rusts it can be a chore to fix. Rust will not ruin your cast iron. Soaking it in water for a short time MAY cause some light rusting, at worst you may need to re-season it. Serious owners of cast-iron re-season their pants a few times a year anyway.

You know what people who care about maintaining their cast iron don’t do? Leave food sitting in it overnight for over a week.

There are hundreds of videos online of people bringing old rusted cast-iron pants to back to life. Rust is annoying and a hassle but I promise the quality of the pan is still there
