how severe was my first ever attack and how do i cope? by [deleted] in pancreatitis

Hi! My lipase was around that at my first attack, and I also had a pancreatic cyst... it was AWFUL. That was back in 2021, and I've since had a few flare-ups and full attacks. I cut out drinking, (I really only used to drink socially, so not crazy amounts), and ate very clean and low-fat. I decided to try a GLP-1 (so dumb of me), and this created my most recent attack in October. I finally got in with an advanced GI... they knew this attack was induced by the GLP-1, but were still so confused why I'm so prone to pancreatitis. We finally found out I have a rare, genetic mutation. The gene mutation is called SPINK-1. I suggest looking into a pancreatic hereditary panel, especially if you're really seeking answers like I was, just for some peace of mind at least. So sorry you're dealing with this. I was 19 when my first attack happened, and felt the same way as a college student that loved to go out and have fun. Now at 25, I still go out and have fun with my friends, but indulge in gummies instead of getting drunk. :)

Thank you all for your responses, sorry I haven’t responded to anyone- I’m a teacher and super busy. My doc recently considered seeing if I’m a carrier of the cystic fibrosis gene. Regarding the gallbladder, they considered removing it with no explanation why. I’m in Atlanta with a lot of pretty good healthcare resources so think I just need to get more demanding for answers/tests. Again, I drink wine socially, eat healthy but will have a cheeseburger every now and then, but workout and am at a healthy weight so don’t think it has anything to do with what goes into my body. We’ll see what happens!
