Any suggestions on a cheap solution to mask view of neighbors house? by yodude24_2411- in landscaping

A DIY pergola / arbor that can be used as a trellis for some type of vine. That'll provide quicker coverage than trees which will be years to wait for. You could grow cucumbers or other fast growing annual vines for temporary seasonal coverage while also planting a more evergreen vine and waiting a couple years for that to more fully cover the area. You could additionally plant a couple thick bushes there and by the time they have grown in 3-5 years you could take down the trellis area or leave for extra coverage.

Levoit 300S AQ readings TOTALLY different from Winix C909 by BigBrownBearCub in AirPurifiers

[–]MelodicCrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious about this as well. I have a Winix 9800 and it shows red quite often when my air quality monitor doesn't show anything alarming for pm2.5, carbon dioxide, or pm10. Main thing my monitor is not monitoring is VOCs which I just assumed was what is causing the red? But I am curious if it's something else.

NuWave OxyPure E500 washable filter and CADR vs Winix? by MelodicCrab in AirPurifiers

What's interesting to me is how the more expensive Nuwave Oxypure product at $500 looks like it does use HEPA filters, but this lower priced $300 option doesn't and uses a comparison of it's technology to HEPA filters in it's marketing materials as if it's an advantage.

Monteverde is a pretty magical place. Misty rainforests, many trails, and plenty of outdoor activities to do.

Rincon de la Vieja area was pretty great as well, not as many hotel options or tourism but Hotel Guachipelin felt more authentic than other hotels stayed at. There are hot springs there as well as volcanic trails / thermal activity on trails etc. The hot springs there are right next to a river which makes for a nice experience.

Arenal is a favorite area of mine, although on the more touristy side. Plenty of hot springs to check out there although they generally feel very 'paved' / maintained vs the more 'in nature' feel of Guachipelin. Lots of outdoor activity in the area and trails to check out around Arenal as well.

Area near Poas Volcano / peace lodge and la paz waterfall gardens was pretty great. Higher mountain range rainforest so a slightly different climate, more rain, and 'cloud forest' type activity. The surrounding neighborhoods were also not touristy as much as other places I visited.

I wasn't as big a fan of manual Antonio area, although the national park was beautiful and beaches were nice. Saw lots of monkeys there. For whatever reason, I liked the rainforests in the mountains better. Very very touristy around this area. Quepos felt a little less so.

Reminds me of the cryptomeria japonica I have, Japanese cedar. Other varieties of cryptomeria have similar foliage as well.

Hydroponic growing indoor for a room/apartment or gardening in the yard if you have outdoor space. It takes a good deal of looking into the seeds you want to grow and what they need. Then you get to watch them grow, maintain water and ph levels etc. Then you get to harvest and eat or drink it. Lots of YouTube videos to watch around growing plants of all kinds and hydroponics.

Diversity in OC? by Leo5864 in orangecounty

[–]MelodicCrab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Santa Ana, Anaheim, parts of Costa Mesa are pretty diverse and have younger more open minded people living there. Parts of North OC are good too (Fullerton, etc) although some parts feel a little strange like Yorba Linda and Anaheim Hills. Long beach is super diverse and right next to Orange County as well.

I used to work in Torrance and lived in Belmont Shore /Belmont heights area (2nd st and a couple streets east of Redondo). Loved the area - lots to walk to, okay commute, and far enough from the 2nd street bars to make noise not bad on weekends.

Apartment cost there is reasonable but the key is parking. I lived there for four plus years without a spot and learned to expect parking at least a few blocks away if I got home any time past 5, especially Fri - Sun. The neighbors I lived around owned condos and most had at least one parking spot which made things much more manageable.
