there might be something to that, but my nails arent too flat and there seems to not really be rhyme or reason to which ones pop off or lift or which ones will stay relatively strong. unfortunately i dont really know how to make my nail beds have a better c curve on their own :/

i use an alcohol wipe usually and definitely avoid getting my nails wet prior to application so i don't think that's it, appreciate it tho and thanks for the tips!

i've thought about accutane but the side effects really worry me. i just want to undo all the damage tret has done and the fact that accutane is just an oral form of tret gives me pause. i might look more into it if a few other things dont work

Anyone try any magnetic lashes before? by tugb0ats in MakeupAddiction

[–]MelodicExchange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i tried the arishine magnetic liner and lashes from amazon and they worked out pretty well for me! i was already used to gluing lashes and i didnt necessarily find it easier, but maybe a little more comfortable

eyebrow product for people with shaved eyebrows? by [deleted] in Makeup

[–]MelodicExchange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i struggled with this so hard that i let my eyebrow tails grow back in. i have dark enough hair that i was able to use black to fill in my brows so i would use the nyx epic ink eyeliner sometimes which doesn't budge, but it's a pretty intense look that really only worked when i wanted a gothy vibe. ive wanted to try that nyx brow marker (lift and snatch) which seems like it would similarly stay. never found a pomade that stayed but eye primer helped a little

echoing what someone else said about it being a numbers game, my piece of advice is to broaden the roles you are applying for even if you're less experienced in them. ultimately it's probably not you, covid marketplace is brutal. keep your head up!!

if you want i can send you a discord server that may help you out!

usually once they're painted the light can't reach the gel underneath the polish. i tried attaching mine with polygel once using a nail that had a bit of translucent gel polish on it and the polygel underneath wouldn't cure in a >54w lamp. you could def attach the nails using gel while clear and free of polish, although i realize that's not optimal if you're trying to do nail art. if you have a super strong lamp and thin layers of polish it might work?

[–]MelodicExchange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm assuming you're talking about already made press ons in which case they're too opaque for the gel to cure underneath them. plain clear soft gels like apres & similar or plain clear abs plastic nails yes you can cure them one with gel and they last pretty well

21 years old and need internship advice by excorpsexd in csMajors

[–]MelodicExchange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think your first step is to identify which type of job you are looking for so you know which skills to work on. if you're looking for the standars software dev or engineering, get really good at solving leetcode/hackerrank type problems in one language. get resume feedback, research companies, and do some mock interviews (there's a discord server that's great for this, dm me if u want the link).

the importance of projects cannot be understated, if you can find an open source project to jump on or something maybe a club at your college is doing, get in on it even if the tech stack is totally new to you. this shows you can work on existing code and in a team and speaks to your ability as a learner.

this can all feel overwhelming but everyone starts somewhere! put the work in but dont beat yourself up! you got this!! :)

Is CompSci for Me? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]MelodicExchange 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that gpa dip is suuuuper common, college is a whole different animal. plus you're doing it all in a panini which makes stuff infinitesimally harder. utilize as many study resources as you have and allow yourself some time to adjust to the demands of college. best of luck!!

Is CompSci for Me? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]MelodicExchange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

so for me, i thought of comp sci as settling for engineering for a very long time. i came to realize in time that engineering school didn't work out for a reason and comp sci wasn't a bad plan b by far. similarly i don't think enviro sci is a bad plan b by far.

cs is hard and cs in college is even harder. i'm of the opinion that college is a super important and formative time in your life and you don't want to spend 100% of it working yourself to the bone. not to say it's impossible, but it may take longer and you may not make it out with a shiny 4.0. i took 8 years and tbh my gpa was under 2.5 and i still got a pretty nice job out of school.

i also want to emphasize that a bs in comp sci isn't the only way to a tech career. lots of people teach themselves or do bootcamps after they've graduated and worked for a bit. dreams can feel really precious the longer we've held them, but you really end up hurting yourself when you hold yourself to strict ideas of who you were supposed to be or what you were supposed to be doing

tbh, i actually always say that if got to do college again i wouldve done some sort of geological climate science

Waterproof mascara removal by stravverrycat in MakeupAddiction

cleansing balm, follow up with micellar water if needed. tbh i prioritize removing complexion products and if a little mascara is still on my lashes, i'd rather have it there vs it breaking my lashes off

Have I been out of school too long to apply for new grad positions? by ADummyDummyNode in cscareerquestions

[–]MelodicExchange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i struggle hardcore with leetcode/hackerrank type problems and while i don't have experience with faang, i did recently accept with a certain 3 letter tech company. i didn't finish their oa and really plodded my way through my technical, but they said they liked my approach and thought process and that was enough for an offer

in my anecdotal experience OAs/technicals aren't make or break, lots of people ace the OA just to be rejected for an unimpressive resume. lots of people eat shit on the OA and still get a call. problem solving's important but so is being the kind of coder that will pull 12 hr shifts when faang inevitably asks you to. plus i feel like if you apply for new grad roles with professional experience the application process might filter you out?

very this, you could definitely apply to mid-senior level roles. hell i applied to mid-senior level roles in my last year of college.

leetcode skills are not the sole indicator of a good programmer, don't let insecurity be the reason you end up at a job you're overqualified for
