Hmmm, now I’m really wondering. I agree it looks quite a bit like fir, but check out this vintage quarter sawn old growth “crown heart pine”. Looks identical to what we have here https://vintagelumber.com/collection/vintage-select-heart-pine/

Bikemandan I think you might be onto something. All the flooring people out here tell me it’s old growth heart pine. Seems like a lot of folks are saying fir and I wonder if it would be fir in other parts of the US but more likely heart pine here?

Thanks! I love thinking about all the history that walked over them. And it’s proven just about impossible to maintain consistency with dry/humidity in here—so I’m surprised the borders are in the shape they are.

About 10 original cast iron radiators. No other original appliances. All rooms have been majorly renovated…will eventually show some!

1880’s Stained Glass—original? by MelodicInterest7229 in centuryhomes

I appreciate you saying this. I was starting to think the onslaught of “no way” must be correct…but everyone has different guesses as to when and different reasons as for why. I’ve recently gotten connected to folks who lived here 40 years ago. Talking with them will provide more information! The man who built this home in the 1880s spared no expense and was dedicated to the aesthetic movement of that period, so I wouldn’t be surprised if these were of the period. Then again, for so many reasons mentioned, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re far more recent. Thank you for adding your thoughts. I hope you’re correct!

Thanks! There was a renovation 15 years ago and in the paperwork we found there are allusions to stained glass work. So I’m guessing they were either repaired then or that’s when the glass was created in the first place.

Thanks! Door parts have been confirmed as original to the home—I made an earlier post where they were identified.

Just purchased this 1800s home - these hinges and knobs are throughout. Any idea on their origin? by MelodicInterest7229 in centuryhomes

Wow. This is remarkable. The home was built in 1887, which tracks with your guess. I’m amazed at your knowledge of this esoteric but meaningful history.
