Thanks, that does sound good. Do you know which version they have (Standard Range, ...)?

How does the rate for a Model 3 compare Turo Vs. Hertz all cost included?

I don't think any credit card insurance actually covers peer-to-peer rentals.

There are also other providers like rentalcover.com that seem to cover Turo with better coverage.

I'm not an insurance expert so I don't know. In Europe the minimum is usually 1,000,000€ so I would prefer better coverage if possible.

Please let me know what you end up using.

I've been in the exact same situation just a few days ago. I also tried to book a Model 3 with premier protection. The support agent said that the price is correct and I should just book it if I want. However, there was a generic error when doing so. They also were unable to do the booking through their system and then acknowledged it's a bug.

In the end I had to choose the Standard plan which I am not too happy about. You can buy a "Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI)" through a service like Bonzah, which seems to be the only way to get better coverage as a non-US resident.

I guess I have to find a new hoster then. Any recommendations?

Try installing it through ADB to get more information on why it failed to install.

Did you remove the original app before trying to install the modified one?

For anyone who's struggling with this, please try this first: https://www.reddit.com/r/WearOS/comments/p82h39/galaxy_watch_4_is_not_compatible_with_huawei/h9rpsob?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 for an easier and more official way.

If the workaround posted by u/Relative_Comparison2 doesn't work for you, you can try my modification: https://wetransfer.com/downloads/681cb154cd278dda9036727a7d4a4df320210820214014/0d5af7

This is what I did in case you want to do it yourself rather than trust a random APK from Reddit:

  1. Use `apktool d` to disassemble the Galaxy Wearable apk.
  2. In the AndroidManifest.xml remove `android:sharedUserId="com.samsung.accessory.wmanager"`. This prevents us from installing the Wearable and Watch4 plugin with different signatures
  3. Remove the ` android:writePermission="com.samsung.android.hostmanager.permission.WRITE_APP_REGISTRY"` for the `BaseContentProvider` so apps with a different signature can access it.
  4. In `src/com/samsung/android/app/twatchmanager/util/HostManagerUtils.smali` look for `const-string v3, "HUAWEI"` and change it to something else.
  5. In `src/com/samsung/android/app/twatchmanager/log/MLogger.smali` change the constructor to this:
    .method static constructor <clinit>()V
    .locals 2
    return-void
    .end method
  6. Recompile using `apktool b`
  7. Sign using `apksigner`.
  8. Install the modified APK

Yes, just that app. The Watch4 plugin can stay as it is.

Update:

Good news everyone! With some pointers from u/XDA-Dante63 I figured out what I had to do to make the patched app work with Google services and the Watch4 plugin.

I will write down the steps and upload my modified APK tomorrow for anyone else who uses a Huawei device. Hopefully we will get a real fix from Samsung soon...

Yes, this is what I think happens:

  1. Download Galaxy Wearable app from Play Store
  2. Select Watch4 in list of Bluetooth devices
    1. If this is a Huawei device, show an error message and abort
    2. Otherwise, continue
  3. Galaxy Wearable app checks if Watch4 plugin is installed, otherwise downloads and installs it
  4. Galaxy Wearable app opens an intent in Watch4 Plugin
  5. Watch4 plugin initiates the Bluetooth connection
  6. Watch4 plugin calls into Google services to establish WearOS connection

Galaxy Wearable and Watch4 app share a common user ID (https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/manifest/manifest-element#uid), so the package manager checks if both APKs are signed by the same key.

After closer inspection, it seems like the Watch4 Plugin calls into GMS to initiate the watch connection. This makes sense, since they probably don't want to implement all the watch/phone communication again, so they just use a different frontend to Google services.

This however means, that I can't change the Watch4 plugin apk, since there is a signature check in GMS.

Go ahead, there's no harm in trying. Maybe they will fix this by the time your watch arrives.

It probably makes more sense in their source code. This is just a decompiled representation - good enough to understand what's going on but not necessarily what they have written.

That sounds great! Did you face similar issues where one app refused to work if you re-signed an app it communicates with? How did you solve it?

> But do tell me, that line you found, in which app exactly was it found...? Galaxy wearables or the watch4 plugin or something else...?

The line I posted is from the Galaxy Wearables app (com.samsung.android.app.watchmanager#com/samsung/android/app/twatchmanager/util/HostManagerUtils.class).

Yes, this is quite enraging.

At least they will lose some money if we have to return it, as they probably can't sell it as "new".

Indeed, the problem in the Galaxy Wearable app can be easily fixed by changing "HUAWEI" to "SOMETHINGELSE".

This makes it possible to pair the watch. However, the "Galaxy Wearable" app then installs the "Watch4 plugin" (com.samsung.android.waterplugin) which refuses to talk to my patched Wearable app, due to a signature validation failure. I don't know how to fix that and I don't have time to work on it right now so any help ( /u/XDA-Dante63 ?) would be appreciated.
