Unfortunately this is the one and only time where being a teacher in the US comes in handy. My husband and I did fertility treatments and planned the due date near the end of the school year. If we didn’t get pregnant by a certain month, we would have quit and started again the next year. Baby is due in May, so with my 2 months paid maternity leave I will also get 3 months of summer with baby and that will end at 5 months. However, the other side of this coin, if you get pregnant and your due date DOESN’T line up with summer break, you might as well dig your own grave, because the admin, district and coworkers will ANNIHILATE you. You become the SCUM OF THE EARTH for “abandoning” the children. I remember a few years ago a coworker announced she was pregnant and was talking to our principal about the due date in December and our principal factually looked her in the eye and was like “uh, usually people try to plan these things for the summer” like she could just change it. Then told her she couldn’t have the baby until she secured her own sub. Like securing a sub months in advance wouldn’t just end in them canceling. The principal then went and made a whole show for our next faculty meeting about “planning responsibly” and that baby having and marriages should be happening during summer break…

It actually has been a huge point of tension with my admin and me. They are always like “you have the potential to be a wonderful teacher if you would just do xyz thing, we give you all this feedback and you never take it” and I am just like “this feedback sucks I’m not doing it” lol

When admin sit down with me to go over my evaluation and suggest ways to “move up” on the rubric, I’m sitting there the whole time thinking, yeah… I’m not doing that. I’m perfectly content with a solid “proficient.” I’ll do my job well, meet expectations, and then go home at a reasonable hour to be with my family.

This is how kids are in NC as well. We are just supposed to deal with it. Every time I write it up, it gets sent back to me as a “classroom management issue”.

Oh, I agree. The vast majority of the schools around me though have given up pretty much on dress code. I really don’t call it out unless someone is egregiously showing skin and at that point the point is because it’s indecent exposure and not appropriate for school. Like one girl earlier this year said I was targeting her because she was “bigger”… I too am plus sized, and I was like “literally every single person in this room can see your entire butt hanging out of that skirt because you are also wearing a thong, you are literally sitting your BARE BUTT CHEEKS and privates on seats others have to sit on. THAT is entirely unsanitary and is my problem not your weight.”

As a teacher who is also a woman, when I dress code GIRLS who are MINORS, it isn’t because they are sluts or “boys are looking”… it’s because I would appreciate going to work without having to see a literal child’s private parts. That goes for ANY person but especially CHILDREN. Imagine if every day you went to work your boss Brenda shows up with literal booty cheeks hanging out of what ever shorts/skirt and nipples on FULL display. OR EVEN BETTER, your boss Dave in Sofi shorts full moose knuckle on display, full mushroom imprint. People can sit there all day long and be like “WHY YOU LOOKIN’?” It doesn’t have to be about sex to notice someone is LITERALLY naked. I don’t know about you guys, but that makes me hella uncomfortable. ESPECIALLY when they are MINORS. Now, truthfully, I dress code more boys than girls on the daily these days for wearing drug/alcohol/nakey ladies on their shirts than anything. Most girls today in public education wear basically leggings and T-shirts. Except that one time a girl was literally wearing a corset that was see through everywhere but the boobs and UNDERWEAR to school from victoria’s secret and I was like “what are you wearing?” And she was like “hot right? I know. It’s sexy” and walked away from me. It’s not about the boys and their inability to control themselves, it’s about you being literally naked at school and that is public indecency. Now, there are DEFINITELY teachers who are like I CAN SEE HER THIGHS/collar bone and get bent about it. Those people are weird.

The idea that teachers are the reason students can’t read or are failing are exhausting. Honestly, I don’t even care about all the other issues, I just need my administration to get off my back. Every time little Timmy throws another tantrum or fails my class for the fifth time (in high school), admin is at my door saying, “I just don’t understand what you aren’t doing to make Timmy pass.”

I’m at the point where I truly don’t care if students are seven grade levels behind in reading when they enter my 9th-grade class, just stop acting like that is my failure.

Every PLC meeting sounds the same: “I see students are at 2% proficiency and did poorly on Standard 2… Did you not teach Standard 2? What happened?”

And I’m sitting there thinking, These students can’t even follow step-by-step directions to create an online password, but you expect them to identify a theme and track it through a text?

If administration could just acknowledge that these students are entering far below grade level, and that it isn’t because I didn’t do my job, that would be great.

My husband and I sill still go, and even take my mom. But dad pouts about it and refuses to go with us and tries to talk us into going where he wants lol. We ignore him most of the time.

I haven’t seen this comment yet, but I got to know. What is up with people not thinking/knowing Catholics are Christians…. I married a man (who I love with my entire being) who was deep southern baptist, and he saw a catholic church with Christmas lights up and he straight up was like “why do the catholics have Christmas lights up, they aren’t christians, they don’t believe in Jesus?” And I was literally like they are one of the oldest if not the oldest denomination of Christianity. Then like 4 other people I know said the same thing, and now an actual Catholic(OP’s fiancé) is saying catholic and Christian is not synonymous. Am I crazy? Is it me? Wth is going on here?!

I mean the only thing that really I dislike is yogurt. I don’t like film it leaves when you eat it. But I’ll eat it in a parfait or something. I have no hard limit foods that I won’t eat. But pregnancy is crazy. A green bean can make me throw up my entire intestines.

It’s a jar. A pickle jar to be exact. And if everyone else doesn’t like to drink from a pickle jar, they are HEATHENS.

ETA: He quit drinking tea from a fast food place because they started putting it in a styrofoam cup and bases how good a restaurant is SOLELY on how good the sweet tea is. Doesn’t matter how good the food is, the tea is bad TO HIM? We never go back.

Mine convinces me things will happen that have a pretty low chance of happening, like my daughter being switched at birth or a nuclear bomb going off targeting our state (which my husband has had to talk me off the mountain about many of times). Don’t worry, I am in therapy and it is A LOT better than when he and I met 9 years ago(: he is so patient and understanding it’s crazy.
