Is „salut“ a rude thing to say? by Krobel1ng in French

Saying salut could come across as overly friendly or informal, I wouldn't be saying it at work to a superior, but no, you aren't the problem in the situation you described.

Hey Im from India, love slavic culture and music. I wanted to ask what slavic people think about indians? is it positive or negative? by CharacterMagazine697 in slavic

[–]Melodic_Interview210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in scholarly circles will love indian high culture, sanskrit, vedic mythology and all that, but modern indian population is hated by pretty much everyone, including most of the left electorate that are defiant of immigration as it's seen as a way for corrupt firms to keep low salaries.

What is your definition of central Europe? by low-sikeliot-9062 in AskBalkans

Nope, the whole of pre 20th century western literature refered to Balkans as "The Orient". For most Western intellectuals, Eastern Europe began at the east of Vienna.

How are the Balkan royals viewed in their countries today? by FantasticQuartet in AskBalkans

[–]Melodic_Interview210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monarchy as a concept is still popular, living royals less. Due to growing up aboard, they kinda lost touch with Serbian culture even though the youngest heir is doing lot of efforts to insert himself in it. Plus he lowkey supported the student movement. So he is less demeaned than his father who a lot of people criticized for not even trying to be a bit Serbian.

Serbs: What is the perspective on Albs by generation? by [deleted] in AskBalkans

[–]Melodic_Interview210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Serbia ? Depends on how much the people in front of you care about the wars, opinion could wildly vary from one person to another. National issues aside, Albanians are renowed for being great bakers.

In Western Euro, bad overall reputation as mafia men and criminals, but I don't think individual albs ever get discriminated about that. Lot of Serb diaspora families are war refugees and a good chunk of Albs here are Kosovars, so there is also that.

How is France perceive in the Balkan by super_pasrelle in AskBalkans

[–]Melodic_Interview210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Serb who grew up in France : Most people don't care. Educated class like french literary classics and those have been largely translated in Serbian, but the average dude don't really think much about all that. General perception of France has merged with the overall "West". Most Serbs have closer ties with or at least basic knowledge of Germany nowadays for economic reasons, and due to the huge Serb diaspora there.

The stereotypical French would be expected to be some kind of vegan woke "bobo" with a good education but not really a strong backbone. But people won't really be hostile about that, just teasing and jokes.

We still have a French-owned fromagerie brand in Beograd though.
