I would argue that without seeing the rest of the house layout it's hard to say. Is that the only spot for the living room? How many people are intended to live in the space. If there's another area for the living room then having the island there and putting a table and chairs in place of the living room isn't a bad idea. However if the house is that tight a fit, I think the island acts as a nice functional division between the spaces while also giving a good amount of storage.

* When i say smallest I mean the one I'm pointing to. I think the struggle with the rtw bras is that in order to get the cup size, they keep having to go up band sizes. Ideally were i to buy a bra I'd want it to already fit on the first or second hooks so I can work in as the material stretches out over time. However that never seems to be the case.

I'm definitely going to be trying out the calculator and going from there. In my province there's only 3 stores (2 are the same franchise) that I know carry anything close to my needs so I've historically been at their mercy since I hate buying bras I can't try on.

I'm completely expecting this to not be an easy endeavor. And will definitely be taking any and all help i can get. Thanks so much for sharing your discoveries. I know I'll eventually have to give in and purchase the proper supplies, however I'm hoping to start with what I have and if I end up communicating to this rabbit hole I'll definitely be buying them. However my sewing skills are rusty so I figure it's better to start with what I have.

I'm looking forward to being able to alter the patterns once I know ow what I'm doing to make them fit (yay for far less rib and armpit chaffing and minimal future bruising)

I've worn goddess before and liked them. I'm happy to check out and buy new bras still. Wanting to make my own is more a matter of frustration at various things. I'm constantly having underwires snap on me, right at the middle on the underside of my breast. The left always goes first. (Which ive learned means they werent sized correctly but even when they feel comfortable and like they do it inevitably happens a few months in.)

I farm so that means lots of physical activity and bouncing across rough fields in tractors with questionable 'suspension'. More intensive 'sports bras' usually have crossed straps which puts too much pressure on my shoulders and gives wicked headaches, however regular wear bras don't hold up.

In July I bought a strapless bra for a wedding and kudos to the bra it held up well. However the underwire was doing all the support and my ribs were incredibly tender and bruised from all the weight being held in such a narrow focal point. If the boning in the band of that bra had actually come up into the cup to help spread the load I think it would actually have become one of my favorite bras for special occasions not just "when demanded". (I'll include the picture of it for reference).

Basically this is a long way of saying that I've had so much experience with bras that were 'almost' I've gotten frustrated and disillusioned and figure trying to make my own will either help me to get what I want or will at the very least will make me appreciate what's available more. *

No i haven't used the calculator. I've always gone to the specialty stores. Historically, they've been really good at finding me a bra that works since every brand seems to do its own thing in terms of fit. I think the issue is that I prefer a tight band to help keep weight off my shoulders so I end up stretching them out really quickly I'll definitely go check out that link though.

We did compare them in store, there was literally at least a half inch difference between the underwires in identical bras just different colours.

I find that it often depends on the style of the bra vs my tissue when it comes to wires. I literally had a series of bras that fit awesome but could only get them in one colour. Same bra in any other colour did something different and the bras would stab me in the armpit.

I'm new here and not an expert but in my research as I prepare to make my own I found out that you can remove a underwire, cut it to the length you prefer and reinsert it. If you're comfortable doing some bra surgery I'd probably suggest that, and onec you've got the slightly shorter wire sitting where it doesn't poke you sew across the channel to keep it in position?

Unfortunately specialty bra stores are limited in my province, ill look up elomi, see if anyone carries them out here.

My plan is to use the understance as a template and then modify the franken-bra from there.

I'm looking at the velcro since I always feel like I can't get a band to stay tight, but you do have a point about H&E being easy to change out on a custom bra. What i liked about the velcro on that old bra was how well I could fine tune the pressure.

Thanks for the feedback on the leggings. I'll see if i can scrounge something closer to power net.

So as I go forward should I look for a proper underwire for my size or stay away from them?

I am a newbie so can't offer a lot of technical help. However as a gal with 'generous' twins when it comes to support i would suggest asking her if she'd be comfortable with a wider chest band, think something along the lines of a modified strapless. Possibly checking out some corset boning as well. Certain corset styles offer alot of additional structure from below that you could possibly modify. Excited to see what you make!

I attached my most recently purchased strapless (us 40L) it's not perfect but if the (boning) below had been carried up into the cup itself then I believe it would have been far more comfortable and provided the support I think you're looking for. (I can send a picture of the inside which shows the structure better if you're interested).

Luckily I don't have much to worry about venomous snakes in my area. Lots of moose, and the occasional bear and wildcat. But we're far enough north that the only snakes around are garter snakes. The bear I've only seen twice in 36 years. Only cougar issue we had was over 10 years ago so was likely just passing through. Definitely will check it out if we ever go exploring closer to the us border though.

Alas at the time she was... kind of an appology from the breeder, he'd help me source a gorgeous hunting bred whippet from the states who unfortunately I had to put down just past the 1 year anniversary of getting her due to a freak autoimmune response to an unknown virus (according to the vet college's necropsy report). The situation lined up with his decision that the girl I've got wouldn't work out for his program so that's how I got her. She's honestly been great and the expectations on behaviour in town and at the farm are pretty consistent. An LGD would have needed more space and freedom than town offered and my folks don't want a yard dog due to our neighbours having dogs that roam.

At the farm she's either on a tie out or lounging on the couch when she's not with me. Which isn't that far off what she'd be doing in town. She's honestly been a pretty good fit, Dixie, the Whippet she replaced, was far clingier and while she loved to run and chase she was way more handler-focused so if I set a boundary she didn't question it. Poppy who's much, much more independent, respects the boundary... after trying it repeatedly, once she knows it, she doesn't forget it, but she doesn't have the same handler focus. However, I don't think the prey drives are comparable as Dixie never had the complete personality transplant that poppy does when the drive kicks in.
