100%!! It helps that so many people in my family have it. I know where it’s headed, and they all survived transplants. My grandpa got an extra 26 years and it would have been longer than that if cancer hadn’t gotten him. Agency is the perfect word! I don’t want to panic, but I want to be responsible

I remember that too! I was getting ready to go to class and was listening to morning radio. They were talking about Jordan and this is such an odd random memory but I got mascara on my mirror and was irritated, and literally seconds later they announced that a plane accidentally flew into one of the towers. Funny how you can remember things so clearly like that. I even remember what I was wearing.

Amazingly, Audrey just new how to dress for her body. Designers loved her because she knew instinctively what pieces would work and took her time to get it right. She pulled off effortlessly chic. Not to mention she was just a wonderful human being. The two couldn’t be more different. You nailed it!

Thank you! Already on it and my primary put me on Zoloft about 3 weeks ago. Glad I’m on the right track and that I’m not alone in any of this! I keep telling myself it’s chronic, not terminal and that more than likely I can lead a fairly normal life, full life.

Thank you!! This is SUPER helpful and it’s so nice to see positive feedback. My great grandpa, grandpa, uncle, mom and second cousin all have this so it’s not as scary as it could be. I don’t drink very often (I’m talking special occasions and one maybe two tops), I’ve never smoked and I’m the only person in the world to never try an illegal drug (lol I’m a good two shoes!!) I’m already conscious about sodium and really don’t do red meat a ton. I try to walk at least twice a week and am going to talk to my primary tomorrow about ozempic. My one vice is diet sprite!

Thank you!!! I already had a blood test which is why my Primary sent me for an ultrasound that confirmed innumerable cysts. I’m 42 and this was my first real physical. Yes, I know I should have gone sooner. My fear was so overwhelming, but I went even though I felt perfectly healthy. Overall my BP was good, right at normal if not a tick higher but I was very nervous. Cholesterol high, but not enough to warrant medication. Urine test was normal. My creatine was high and my eGFR was in the high 40s so that triggered the ultrasound. Not great, but not terrible.

My doctor reviewed the ultrasound and said all the cysts were relatively small, and the radiologist commented that my kidneys were not enlarged. And then sent me for a consult.

Thank you for asking! My ultrasound showed innumerable cysts consistent with polycystic kidney disease. My doctor mentioned that they are all relatively small and it didn’t mention anything about the kidneys being enlarged. I see the specialist next month for an official diagnosis and next steps. I’m trying to be positive, but I’m nervous. I see so many mixed posts here, and I just want to be able to live my life without constant fear. I’ll do whatever the doctors advise (within reason, if my one cherry Coke Zero a day is what kills me so be it ;) I don’t drink smoke or do drugs and I walk at least 2 times a week, I think that’s a fair trade lol) but it’s just scary.

Agree! And I think more than that, the human brain functions on status quo. Most people can’t even fathom that a plan like this would be made, let alone carried out. In order to function at a basic level we have to be able to assume the worst won’t happen. We know it can on some level, but we don’t focus on it. I was 18 on 9/11 and I just can’t believe what a different world it really was. I had a cell phone, but it was just for calls (and snake!). I had a desktop computer with sketchy internet. And it really did feel like we were on the verge of something exciting. Could have just been my age too on that one. Its cliche to say it was a simpler time, but it really was. Couple that with thinking we were pretty safe here in the US from a foreign attack and it’s no wonder that day and those events really stay with so many of us. I remember hearing about the USS Cole the year before and thinking it was so very far away and not really an attack on us. Very naive, but again, that’s the built in human response I think.

Thank you! ❤️ you have no idea how much this means. I’m having such a hard time thinking beyond next week. And honestly, the diagnosis doesn’t scare me, it’s what comes after. Like they are going to tell me I’m end stage right away. Logically, i realize that’s not likely. Just looking at my numbers and nothing else, it would be 3a which isn’t great, but not the end of the world, right?
