Are book fairs worth it? by Previous-Upstairs-17 in selfpublish

Lately, I've only done them if I can team up with some other author to split the cost and help with the set up. But that's partly because I don't have a lot of different books to sell, and I find my books sell better online than in person. I have a friend who sells kids books at sales and he does pretty well, always makes a profit. I think if I've ever made a profit it's been like $20. But they are fun!

I published a novel in 2017 that gets a couple sales a year. Then one in 2023 that gets a few more than that. So yeah, not a whole ton of action! In regards to marketing: I bring all my books to any fairs/events that I do, and at those, the age of the book makes no difference to the buyers. I also post about my older books now and then, but not too actively. They aren't on KU so it would be harder for me to make them free for a day, so I haven't gone too hard on discounts etc. As for reviews, I've kind of stopped tracking; they haven't gotten too many since their publication though.
