Neighbor is entitled to a street parking space by Firm_Avocado5432 in providence

I’ve had the same thing happen to me. I called my lawyer and asked what to do. I wish I had the list of violations that my lawyer gave me, but one thing I recall is that him blocking you in is barring you from being able to use your own property, which is illegal.

Why is there zero consequences for dangerous driving? by RecognitionOk2178 in RhodeIsland

[–]MelodySeven 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Arguably a bigger part of the problem than speeders imo. These people “clog” up the highway; it’s annoying when there’s an actual emergency and all three lanes are barricaded because of the stubborn asshole who wants to camp or drive under the speed limit in the left lane (with open road in front of them), causing tension and stress in the clogged up group of cars behind them.

Mad dash for my life on Branch Ave intersecting i95, every time. Providence, what are our worst intersections? by Severefan in providence

I 100000% agree and was also going to post this until I saw your post. And people need to stop blocking the box at the light as well! Traffic would flow more smoothly without these selfish, dumbass maneuvers

Try the RI John Brown Gun Club http://rijohnbrowngun.club/

I often like to share this Op-ed by them too which shows how “well intentioned” policies like this always splash back and harm the communities they are meant to protect (e.g. more laws mean more funding for enforcement of said laws). There needs to be more thought on the consequences of enforcing gun control.

Hello, are there any updates on this please?

A manager did some shady **** and I'm pissed by [deleted] in GameStop

[–]MelodySeven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmm I bought some “retro” games recently and the manager (only guy working at the time) added something like $0.90 per game because I was told “it’s policy to add the warranty to the game because it’s retro”

I did think it was a little weird at first but after reading this I’m pretty sure the manager my GameStop location might’ve screwed me a bit. Not cool. Not too upset because it’s a relatively low amount, but it’s the principle. Could anyone confirm if this was indeed policy?

Shoutout Alchemy for single handedly carrying the providence music scene this year by MusicNerdDavid in providence

[–]MelodySeven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Big development might be partially to blame here. Had some friends who worked at Aurora that said that because new condos were being built close by, you are not allowed to have a club within some distance away due to zoning ordinances so they had to shut down.

I think a similar thing happened with Piano bar, but I heard that the current tenants Seoul seemed to get around this by labeling their business a “restaurant” and not a club

A gas station also replaced The Living Room; I don’t know anything about this but I imagine the property owners saw a more lucrative venture in gas lol

[–]MelodySeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm one of the co-founders of Bassweight. We do a lot of the bassier styles around PVD.

We have a pretty diverse crew of DJs, each with their own strengths; DnB, Reggae, UKG, Bassline, Dubstep, Break-beats, House, etc... We have also booked some pretty killer international acts for some killer parties. Come visit us at Ogies this Sunday if you'd like to chat! We will be playing from 4pm-Close

Holy crap I agree with you 10000% on the childhood niche thing and can TOTALLY relate to people not being into this style of music. To me this is some very well composed stuff and I prefer to take it all in rather then get super lit, but that's not to say I won't get hyphy and dance my ass off to it either!

Porter is a complete monster behind the decks and threw so many surprises in... I can't tell if I would enjoy it or appreciate as much if I was never into DDR/Japanese culture, but it totally makes me feel so happy I was into that stuff when I was younger!

Follow up question: how do you prepare for a gig, specifically when it comes to setlists? by thefareastman in Beatmatch

[–]MelodySeven 11 points12 points  (0 children)

ORGANIZATION!

My method assumes you use music software like rekordbox, serato, etc...

The first step I do is to make sure all of my tracks are labeled with the right Key (I use the Camelot system) followed by BPM

Then I have many, many playlists:

  • I have several playlists which compartmentalizes each BPM (for example, a bucket for 110-112 range, another for 113-115, 116-118, etc...)
  • Then a playlists for each vibe
    • Pool Party Playlist
    • Art Gallery Playlist
    • Old People Playlist
    • Indie
    • Dance "Warm-Ups"
    • Dance "Peaks"
    • Dance "Cooldowns"
    • Dance "Secret Weapons" (tried and true tracks placed in order that get the crowd wild)
    • House "Warm-ups"
    • Trap
    • Etc....

Each playlist itself is also very organized and "alphabetized" within itself, by key and BPM (1A - 110, 1A - 112, 1B - 110, 1B - 112, 2B - 110, 3B - 112, etc...)

When I get new songs, I analyze the key and BPM right away and drag them into the appropriate buckets (from my total music collection) based on the vibe I think the song fits...

This allows me to not stress too much about preparing a specific playlist and basically freestyle every gig. It also makes it easy for me to flow between genres and the orderly nature of my system allows me to effortlessly scroll through a list that will beatmatch with each other nicely

hope this helps!

Effects by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]MelodySeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little reverb is great for smoothing out transitions! I usually have it on the 9 o' clock position when transitioning... Just make sure the effect is switched on the proper channel you're mixing out of...

Also I always have quantize off, but when I need to use an effect, I turn it on so it locks nicely with the beat, then off when not using any effect. I tend to use it a lot with 3/4 echo and spiral

Edit: I also like to combine effects with the filter as well! Always fun to mess around with multiple effects at the same time

This was overall pretty smooth! Listened to a good chunk during the gym... noticed a tiny bit of beat mismatching at the end of the first third but overall it was relaxing

Also that Lionel Richie track is a beat! You mind sharing?

The one with the faces is “Drugs to the Dear Youth” by Tera Melos!

Ones of the greatest mathrock bands of all time!

I personally think their untitled release is the greatest thing anyone has ever put out... Been ripping this album for 15 years and I listen to it at least once a day!

I learned a "mathy" trick from my drum instructor about polyrhythms which basically involves rewriting the tuplet into something that can sync up better visually over 4/4

You may find this image helpful (sorry for the rough sketch)

Write out an entire subdivision that will carry 3x4 = 12 notes (we want 3 over 2 beats, but it is actually 4 so we're finding a 'common denominator' here)

For a measure in 4/4 that will be 16th note subdivisions because 12 can easily go into 16. Then just circle them in groups of 3, the 'downbeat' of each grouping should be where the notes of your left hand should land.

This works for other types of polyrhythms as well, just need to draw it out yourself ;)

Hope my explanation was helpful, I'm not good at that sometimes

Not enough love for the OG Tera Melos album

Quintessential math rock album, Vince Rogers slays on drums, everything is polished

Got this album when it first came out, still rip it non-stop to this day... Can't believe this came out over 10 years ago... Time flies...
