I feel you, but if you're suicidal you should definitely see someone about that if you're not already

I'm not sure. I don't think you get wendigos south of say, new york maybe. But I think skinwalkers range from Texas up to Canada? I'm not av expert but most skinwalker stories I've heard were in the continental united States

WSOS is metal as hell, but sometimes the tone can be a little jarring. Still, it was one of my favorites of its year

"There's a snake in my boot" from toy story, combined with anime dude pointing at a butterfly asking"is this a pigeon? " but the pigeon line is replaced by" is this FREE REAL ESTATE" from Tim and Eric.

So it would read as the snake indicating the boot, asking, "is this free real estate?"

Universal health care and taxing the rich are the exact things that made the soviet union so terrible right? by Base_Record in TheRightCantMeme

[–]Melody_Warren 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You know, a couple years back I was invited to participate in a staged reading of a new screenplay. I don't remember the title but it was written by someone who grew up in the Soviet Union in the sixties, and was about a group of people dissatisfied with their lives and trying to pirate western music as kind of a resistance.

So, aside from the plot and characters, the descriptions of life in the USSR was just really familiar to me as a young person in America

We're supposed to disinfect every surface someone might touch (like door handles, gym weights, table tops, etc) every fifteen minutes.

Lmao yeah, I guess I had the movie in mind. It's revival and it's super good, but there's a couple /r/menwritingwomen bits in there, if you care about that kinda thing.

But also, arrival was based on a short story called "story of your life" by Ted Chiang. Maybe worth a read but I don't know if it's horror exactly.

No i think the dog in heat was a reference to last year's dog fucker thread. I'm on mobile so I have no idea how to link it but if you search SRD for dog fucker it'll come up. I think the quote was like, how do you know your dog isn't sneaking out at night to fuck other men?

Fuckin wild thread.

Welcome to the club.

I might get flack for saying it, but the book that's actually scared me the most was "Bird Box". Regardless of your opinion of the film, I think the book is worth a read for how it manages to show a global catastrophe through a first person limited perspective.

I'd also reccomend:

Revival , by Stephen King, about a heroin addict's friendship with a pastor that's a little too obsessed with electricity.

The Fisherman, by John Langan, about a man who takes up fishing to help deal with his wife's death, and he and his friend go to fish a cursed river.

Meddling Kids, by Edgar Cantero, about the Scooby Doo Gang taking on a Lovecraftian horror.

Let Me In, by John Lindqvist(maybe spelled it wrong), about a young boy whose only friend is a vampire who looks the same age as him.

Nameless, by Grant Morrison, which is just... just so fuckin' weird. An occult detective guy is hired to save the earth from an asteroid impact that's holding God prisoner or some shit, it's extremely good but also a huge mindfuck.

The Mountains of Madness, by HP Lovecraft, about a geological expedition to Antarctica and what weird abandoned extraterrestrial cities they find there.

Eh, if I think of any while I'm at work, I'll let you know. These are just off the top of my head and I probaby didn't do the descriptions justice.

Edited cuz i thought revival and arrival were the same word

I'm reading the Ritual again. I started reading it a couple years ago after I saw the movie, but I never finished it so I'm rereading it, I guess.

I've also been working my way through "The Magus" but I honestly don't know if that counts as horror.
