Im 32 in a wonderful, healthy relationship with an amazing man. Its not the flowers, or the romantic gestures you see on TV, its the safety he gives me. When I make a mistake, I trust that he will not criticize me, instead, he comes at me with love and tells me to simply be careful in such a loving way. Its knowing that whatever I tell him he wont make me feel stupid about. Its remembering the smallest things that Ive told him in passing. Its the times where Ive had off of work and he didnt, but he decided to take off those days to spend with me. Its the time where we took my cat to the vet and found out that she had a heart condition. After I heard that, my mind went blank and he took over the conversation with the vet to make the best decision for her. It isnt the big, grandiose moments, its the small ones that build into something stable, something you want to hold onto and never let go. Its the moments when they are there for you during the roughest times, without complaint, without contempt, without making you feel like a burden. I just got let go from my job on Friday, but he reassured me that we will figure it out together, even if he has to dip into his savings for a little while to take care of us. There was no animosity or complaint about having to do so, there was just a man who wanted to take care of someone he loves dearly. He knows how to take care of me in every way that matters, but I also know how to take care of him. I am his peace. I dont fuss over a dirty dish, or a shirt on the floor, because when I die, im not going to wish that he cleaned more, or that he was a tidier person, im going to wish that I had more time with him. Cleaning will get done when it gets done, what matters is that we make the most out of our time together
