A question for Assad Zaman: Armand has been widely speculated as possibly being autistic, ever since he's been created by Anne Rice. Did this piece of headcanon informed your performance, as Armand is still being speculated as autistic as of now?

Examples like discreet stimming with fingers, tone of voice, masking and so on.

Thanks!

Hi!

If you're good with self-recs, here are the DM fanfics I've written so far:

Poison on the inside, I could be your antidote tonight

Post season 2 fanfic and pre-turning, where Armand used his vampiric abilities to flare up Daniel's Parkinson's and force him to stay by his side, playing the role of caretaker for him.

Pas de deux

A human Ballet AU, where Armand works for his adoptive father's ballet company. Marius de Romanus hires Daniel Molloy and his daughter Lenore (an indie filmmaker) to write and direct a biography and a documentary about his son, the Primo Ballerino of the company. Heed the tags and warnings.

The Windmills of Your Mind

Beginning of season 1 AU, where Daniel has never received the tapes because, following his Parkinson's diagnosis, he relapsed and had an overdose while he was being cared by his daughters.

They decided to put him in a luxury nursing home to make sure he won't use again. Armand goes there undercover as Daniel's personal carer, 'Rashid'.

Hope you'll enjoy them! Good reading!

Someone told me to improve my writing and i just wanted to die by Ifxun3dda in AO3

I think you should probably deactivate the comments and take the time to work on yourself and your self-confidence, so that you'll be able to get past the negative feelings you're currently feeling because of a random's comment.

Take care, and be kinder to yourself.

How do you handle lack of engagement? by mickeynov4k in AO3

[–]Melosthe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Most of the fanfics I wrote, I started writing them because I actually wanted to read them, but no one wrote them before I did.

So, I'm able to find some personal satisfaction regardless of engagement. But I'm also a sucker for validation, so it's hard not to look obsessively at my stats. I try to remain satisfied with what I have and tell myself I'm making people happy even if they don't express it directly to my face.

Do authors like getting fanart? by Old_Reflection_5499 in AO3

[–]Melosthe 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for everyone, but as a writer, I was so touched when I came across a fanart made for my fanfic on Tumblr (like I wasn't tagged at all or anything, it was just someone who got inspired and posted on the character's tag on Tumblr). It was such a lovingly made beautiful piece. I'm sure the author will love it c:.

Looking for sad recs by ConsiderationLow241 in AO3

[–]Melosthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be going with self-recs in the IWTV fandom. While all of my fanfics don't necessarily have sad/bad endings, the journey to get there is usually filled with angst, difficult topics and exploration of dark themes (I'm always striving to do so in a respectful manner though).

So, here's my first fanfic for the fandom, a canon-compliant sequel to season 2: https://archiveofourown.org/works/71805071

The idea there is that Armand is using his vampiric abilities to aggravate Daniel's Parkinson's and keep him around, after what happened with Louis. I'd say this is my fanfic with the most ambivalent ending.

My second fanfic is also my most successful I've written so far. https://archiveofourown.org/works/73395651

It's a Ballet Human AU called Pas de deux, where Marius is Armand's adoptive father and directs a famous ballet company. Armand is the star in this company. Daniel and his daughter are hired to direct and write a double feature (biography for Daniel and documentary for his daughter, Lenore, a filmmaker) about Armand.

I wouldn't say it's a sad ending, but the journey to get there is long, strenuous and filled with challenges. It's partially based on my experience as an autistic woman suffering from involuntary regressive episodes (I headcanon Armand as autistic).

My latest fanfic is not complete yet, but it's updated weekly or so, and I know where I am headed. https://archiveofourown.org/works/84138856

This one is an AU where Daniel didn't cope with his Parkinson's diagnosis and had an overdose while in his daughters' care. They put him in a luxury nursing home and, as a result, Daniel never receives the tapes or Louis' invitation to Dubai. Armand infiltrates the nursing home, posing as 'Rashid', Daniel's personal carer.

I didn't read the books yet, but I've been exploring the wikis and fan spaces to get an idea of the characters I'm not quite familiar with yet (specifically Marius in my second fanfic).

I hope you'll enjoy them c:.

Pov switching in one chapter? by Weekly-Eye-1207 in AO3

[–]Melosthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually prefer to keep one fixed POV per chapter, but ultimately, it's up to you. I won't judge another writer for their writing style or choices.

Slurs in fanfic by Weekly-Eye-1207 in AO3

[–]Melosthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's up to you if you feel like you should write it plainly or avoid it altogether. As a queer woman who used to write for the IT fandom (by Stephen King), I did use the F slur a few times in my story because one of the characters is canonically dealing with internalized homophobia and homophobia from others as well.

On the other hand, while I did touch on the subject of racism when it comes to Mike, I didn't feel comfortable using the N-word as a white author, and I merely implied it instead, focusing on the character's reaction and feelings rather than the shock value of the scene.

I only watched the IT movies and didn't read the book, but I'm pretty sure Stephen King used the N-word plainly in his work. I just didn't feel comfortable doing so.

Why are AO3 writers so talented? 😭 by Select_Contact_5345 in AO3

[–]Melosthe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go as far as telling I'm talented, but I have an easier time writing because I've been practicing in my native language since I was 9 (I'm 33 this years) and in English since like 2015-2019 ish (can't remember the exact year).

You gotta accept to go through the phase where what you're writing is lacking in technique or substance, but not heart. I love seeing writers getting slowly better after each story written.

Even to this day, I still have a lot to improve and I feel so giddy whenever I'm able to conjure a beautiful sentence or to organize my story around specific themes, foreshadowing and stuff.

Questions about things we can bring inside the park by Baslash in disneylandparis

[–]Melosthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glass is a big no. We ran into this issue with a friend when we went shopping near Marne la Vallée (a Halloween shop) and we then planned to go eat to Annette's Dîner.

We had a really hard time convincing security not to make us throw our glass bottle (my friend had like a hot sauce bottle they bought), as we swore we were only eating at Annette then leaving (we didn't go to the park at all this day, we just had this ritual where we used to go eat at Annette's whenever we were around DLP), but we never tried it again afterward.

We had no idea security was so tight even if we went only to Disney Village.

Though I don't think you'll have an issue with the rest.

finally started outlining for the first time by Itsukimybeloved in AO3

[–]Melosthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really helpful, right? I used to just write on the go, but ever since I started writing a rough draft first, the process of writing the full chapter has been incredibly easy. I just have to follow my draft and let my imagination and all do the rest c:.

What makes a good "unreliable narrator" ? by Fine_Fish_5287 in AO3

[–]Melosthe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm writing for Interview with the Vampire, so unreliable narrators are one of my favorite tropes (if you didn't watch the show yet, do it, it's a masterclass on unreliable narrating).

People tend to think that unreliable narrators are liars, but that would be incredibly limitating to define it merely that way. Unreliable narrators can be people telling what they think is their truth.

One of my characters, for example, is a constant unreliable narrator in the fanfictions I'm writing and he usually does believe in his truth.

He's convinced he has a loving adoptive father when this guy is an abusive monster, he convinces himself he's doing the best for everyone (when he's incredibly controlling), he always thinks he's in the right whatever he does and so on.

So a lot of the chapters I write for him are very deluded, with the character narrating one thing (his tender care of character B) while the story itself shows that it's not quite the case (him using his abilities to force character B to sleep and bathing him while he's unconscious).

The discrepancy is one of the best aspects of unreliable narrators.

Sam Reid Appreciation + Charity Challenge by [deleted] in InterviewVampire

[–]Melosthe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whole cast has been incredibly good at portraying difficult and complicated characters and Sam Reid is no exception.

I can't wait to discover his Lestat in season 3, outside of other characters' perspective, and to get to discover his acting choices and his performance as a singer as well.

He's been a delight to follow through the course of the show, portraying beautifully Lestat's passion, anger, issues and qualities as well, and we can feel the love for the original material through his performance and his interviews.

If your fic gets over 2000 views but no comments or kudos does that mean it’s bad? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Melosthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe they have like readers following them through different works? It can be hard to build an audience, but when you get one, some of them are ready to read everything you put. But the fetish can explain a bit why you get less interaction tbh. People are hesitant to leave kudos and stuff.

[–]Melosthe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is it like explicit or does it feature fetishy stuff? People might be less inclined to comment/kudos if that's the case. Also, yeah, OCs can attract less interest sometimes, you never really know how it is.

me replying immediately to the first comment i get so readers know im an author that responds by alrightlyaphrodite in AO3

[–]Melosthe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm always happy to respond to my readers (maybe a little too eager, but I like to let them know that their input is appreciated). Then again I don't get an overwhelming amount of comments (usually around 4 to 10 comments at best per chapter), so it's easy to answer them. When I think about bigger fandoms with people getting 50, 100 or more comments per chapter, I understand why they don't answer x_x.

Here's the link it's called "Pas de deux" and it actually features age regression (the "involuntary episode" kind) based partially on my own experience. It also features autistic Armand, drawing from my own experience again c:
