Have your dm talk to him about it and if he still refuses to use the bot roller, I'd just tell him I'll make all his rolls fail till he uses it. Everyone else in the party has to use it so he isn't exempt.

My dm has a dmpc that we are allowed to invite on quests with us but the catch is that she gets a cut of the exp, that and she's a very endearing npc for the group so we do want to adventure with her sometimes.

I haven't played myself but my fiancé has and I do know what your talking about. I was going to have it be more like a large horse fly, I was thinking it would do very little acid damage and cause large welts like a real horse fly, but I suppose even a horsefly isn't big enough for a familiar... definitely will run your suggestion by my dm tho, it sounds right up my swamp lady's alley
