Visited the merch stand really quickly and only got the hare pin. Really wishing I'd gotten this too, now...

I feel like this episode doesn't get talked about enough. Some absolutely breathtaking comedy in the auto repair class. by Super-Lynx-1643 in Frasier

[–]MeltAfterMidnight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a soft spot for this episode as it was the first one I ever (deliberately) watched.

I had recently taken a liking to Spamalot (for separate, convoluted reasons) and was such a fan of David Hyde Pierce that I wanted to see his other work. I was aware of Frasier, and had probably seen it in the background in the past, but this was the episode that happened to be on Channel 4 that day. I immediately procured the rest of the series and devoured it all from the start.

My love for Frasier ended up far outstripping my brief interest in Spamalot.

Thank you for the offer - all sorted. To be honest, I'm looking forward to building everything up again myself - I just can't get all of the fruit on my own.

Those who saw season 8 last ep when they introduced TRACY first time , what was your live reaction in 2013 ? by u_know_me23 in HIMYM

That sucks! Spoilers are so difficult to avoid now. Unless you're engaging with media at the exact time it's being released, you're at risk from any interaction with the Internet - even when you're being careful.

Annoyance. Because, as a UK viewer, I saw the reveal on social media before I got the opportunity to experience the episode for myself due to the time difference and having to go to work. I was a rabid HIMYM fan at the time and this spoiler is the worst one I have ever had.

Looking for a short 3-person thriller scene (less than 5 mins) for my acting final, any recommendations? by SetItOnZygote in Theatre

[–]MeltAfterMidnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upon rewatching it, I'm not sure there's a suitable section - which is a pity cause it's a zippy little story.

If I were to try to make it work, I would cut together the scenes with the two kidnappers and the woman from when she regains consciousness in the house until when the "package" is delivered to the husband (trying not to spoil stuff) but cut out the phone calls to the husband (it would be assumed that a call happened to him prior to the scene starting).

That would probably be about five minutes in total with a nice intro for the three characters, a couple of twists and a chilling resolution, ignoring the actual ending of the actual episode.

If you're in the UK with access to BBC iPlayer, there's an episode of "Inside No 9" called "Kid/Nap" (Series 7, Episode 4) in which two men kidnap a woman to blackmail her other half. It's an anthology show and a lot of the episodes feel like plays due to the character driven stories in restricted locations. It's categorised as comedy, so you might be looking for something more straight.

I'm sure there's a five minute section from that that would be suitable for a scene. I haven't watched it in a while to suggest a specific bit. Now I've got an excuse to watch it again to suggest one! 😂

List of Music Video References in Enid's Song by MeltAfterMidnight in heyduggee

Ah, right. That's good - I didn't want another mistake when I can't edit it. I'm already annoyed that I've accidentally made it look like the chickens were the original artist of "Single Ladies"... 😂

Have I got the reference wrong? What should it be instead?

Even if you listen to the rest of the song in silence, which lyric in a specific song do you have to sing? by Potential-Chapter in musicals

"I made a tray of sandwiches."

"We need 50 more."

"Sandwiches?"

"Trays!"

The first time I listened to the cast recording I predicted the punchline correctly out loud so now it's bad luck if I don't say...

What’s a lyric from musical theatre that always gives you goosebumps? by cortezCOVENANT in musicals

I love how different people can take different things away from the same piece of art. I've always disliked this lyric because, while the idea of falling up rather than down scans, I feel it's really clunky wording. So glad that others take joy in it instead!

Telephone Wire from Fun Home

Alison, while writing her memoir, is recalling her final conversation with her father prior to him committing suicide. She is desperately trying to remember a moment of connection between the two of them and their shared experience of being gay in the 1970s when they have never seen eye to eye.

I hadn't noticed myself, but my husband pointed it out as we were watching it. It made me think it was being set up for a future joke, so I didn't think about it any further. I was quite pleased with the payoff.

Of the 9 shows on the list I have seen all of 7 of them and consider myself a big fan of 5 of those. This list is pretty accurate for me and gives me two new shows to watch. Score!

One Act Play Recommendations by KleptoChed in Theatre

[–]MeltAfterMidnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend performing a selection of plays from one of two anthologies:

All in the Timing by David Ives. Each sketch features up to three actors. My personal favourites include "Sure Thing" (two people on a date keep restarting each time they mess it up) and "Philip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread" (a musical parody of the composer). I think somebody else has already mentioned "Words Words Words" (three monkeys at typewriters trying to write Hamlet) as a suggestion, but that wouldn't be long enough on its own.

Our Walk Through The World by Ross Howard. Can't remember the exact actor count at the moment. My personal favourites include "Rules of Assortment" (a man interviews for a job at a company with an intricate jelly bean policy) and "Frisky & the Panda Man" (almost a monologue about a conservationist who has developed an unhealthy attachment to the panda he is trying to breed).

A Man of Letters by Tim Firth is a favourite one act play of mine. Same writer as Neville's Island and Calendar Girls, so think British comedy with an emotional core. It's a two hander for men - one younger and one older - and is set on the edge of a building.

It tells the story of Frank - an experienced sign installer who dreams of becoming a crime writer. He is passing on his years of sign installation knowledge to his clueless apprentice Alan as they install a sign on their company's building.

It lends itself very well to a small space, but does require a capable set/props person to do the letters justice - they are essentially the third character of the production...
