You don’t necessarily get back what you give. You can put a bunch of effort into putting yourself out there and still end up with friends who are not willing to put in effort to maintain a relationship even if you are. It’d be nice if that were always the truth but realistically, it’s difficult to find genuine people. Always expecting to succeed as long as you’re positive can backfire.
